2008 Fantasy Football Week 12 RecommendationsQuarterbacks
Aaron Rodgers is coming off perhaps his best week of the year. He gets a great match-up with the Saints this week. Jeff Garcia jumps up this week thanks in large part to a weak Detroit team. Everybody should just remember the motto “Anybody playing the Lions.” Kyle Orton is back in the top ten after being pretty healthy against the Packers, despite a poor day, and a great play this week against St. Louis. Kerry Collins is a pretty solid play as teams have started to load up against the run, forcing the Titans to throw the ball more. Chad Pennington and Matt Cassel are both decent plays this week, especially in deep leagues. They are both pretty good plays against each other’s defenses who have both struggled against the pass this season.
Running Backs
Marshawn Lynch was a man amongst boys against Cleveland Monday night. Lynch may have signaled his return to elite fantasy status after a rough start to the season. He gets Kansas City this week and should be excellent again. Matt Forte has now become a huge part of the Bears offense, both rushing and receiving. That new receiving focus has made Forte an excellent fantasy RB. Warrick Dunn jumps way up this week due to the injuries throughout the Bucs backfield. The other advantage for Dunn is that he is an excellent receiver, and he plays a terrible Lions team. Justin Fargas is coming off a great week, and is a solid play against Denver this week. Reggie Bush is a superb play this week, if he can go. His health is a huge question and is worth watching. If he goes, play him.
Wide Receivers
Greg Jennings is a great play this week against a terrible Saints defense on a fast track indoors. Donald Driver is a solid play as well. Santana Moss has a great match-up and should be fully healthy. Brandon Marshall drops this week, thanks mainly to the fact that Nnamdi Asomugha is likely to cover him for a bulk of the game. Ted Ginn Jr. jumps way up and should be a solid play against a weak Pats pass defense. Antonio Bryant moves way up and gets the Lions, who again, the motto “anybody against the Lions” applies to very well. Hines Ward moves up this week as the Steelers hope to figure out their pass offense against the Bengals. Lastly, Randy Moss is back to being a must play after Matt Cassel’s big night last Thursday.
Tight Ends
Vernon Davis caught a TD in his second straight game. He moves back into the top ten with a good match-up and a solid passing/running game in San Francisco. Bo Scaife moves way up, thanks in large part to the focus of the Titans offense being forced to throw the ball more. Donald Lee moves way up this week, coming off a TD catch against Chicago. Lee benefits from a solid match-up, meaning more scoring opportunities. Tony Gonzalez is likely to play, and Buffalo is not a bad match-up. His health is a minor concern but let him play.
Kickers
Kickers are all about the same at the end of the year, so it comes down to a week-by-week match up question. My favorite kicker to jump up this week is Jeff Reed. The Steelers get the Bengals, who should help fix the Steelers offensive issues. Reed is as solid as they get, and he should get more chances than usual this week.
Defense/Special Teams
Tampa Bay gets the best match-up this week, again “anybody playing the Lions,” and Tampa Bay gets to play the entire Lions team, imagine that. The Steelers defense has been great all year and gets the Bengals this week. There is a not really a big sleeper for this week, but the Jets and Redskins are decent plays on the lower end of the scale. Tennessee has been struggling some lately and the Jets defense looked great in the first half against New England. Plus, you have to figure that if the Jets force Kerry Collins to win the game they have a shot. Collins is going to have a bad game before the season ends, why not this week? The Redskins get Seattle, who may start to improve with Matt Hasselbeck back at the helm. However, the Skins defense was outstanding against Dallas, and Hasselbeck is not back to 100 percent yet. So, the Skins should be able to have another great week with the match-up against Seattle.
