2008 Fantasy Football Week 13 Recommendations

Quarterbacks

  1. Peyton Manning should be an excellent bet against a terrible Browns defense. Chad Pennington jumps up as a solid play this week coming off a great week against the Pats. The Rams have been terrible, and Pennington has been solid all season long. Matt Ryan looks solid again this week against a struggling San Diego squad. Tyler Thigpen Peyton Manning looks like the top QB this week. Manning has been mediocre at best this year, but he is another one of my favorites this week. The Raiders have been better the last couple weeks. However, Thigpen has been solid since taking over as a starter, and he should have a good bit of success this week.

Running Backs

  1. Deangelo Williams is my favorite RB this week. He gets a terrible Green Bay run defense and has been red hot of late. The usual suspects are all right there as well, Michael Turner is the next runner on my ranking. Thomas Jones is a great bet for this week as he gets the Broncos weaker run defense. Warrick Dunn should be a top 20 back again and a solid RB2 or Flex play. He is the feature back in Tampa now and the Saints defense is not exactly the ’85 Bears, despite how it looked against the Packers Monday. The closest thing to a sleeper this week would be either Pierre Thomas, Le’Ron McClain, or Mewelde Moore. They all have decent match-ups and should get a good number of carries. The only problem is they are not exactly a surprise.

Wide Receivers

  1. Andre Johnson is the top WR this week after continuing to put up numbers despite Matt Schaub’s injury. Greg Jennings is in for what should be another great week against Carolina. I would expect the Packers to come out with a vengeance (similar to the Bears game) after a terrible game on Monday night. Roddy White is fully healthy again and is back in the top five. Randy Moss is back in the top ten, even against the Steelers. Hines Ward jumps into the top ten as Ben Roethlisberger’s favorite target and against an extremely bad Pats pass defense. Antonio Bryant and Lance Moore join the WR 1 plays this week and should be very good against each other’s teams. Ted Ginn Jr. may have finally found his stride and should be outstanding again this week against the Rams. The biggest sleepers this week are Anthony Gonzalez (Colts) and Bernard Berrian. Berrian is a good play, even though he gets a solid Bears defense. The Vikings have opened their offense up more lately and he is their only real deep threat.

Tight Ends

  1. Tony Gonzalez is the top TE. Gonzalez has been truly great again this season, and as Thigpen gets better it should only help him. Dustin Keller is in the top five for the second straight week, and has established himself as a top five TE. Kevin Boss has jumped into the top ten at number six this week. Boss is the biggest sleep this week at TE.

Kickers

  1. Mason Crosby is our top kicker this week. The Packers should score quite a bit more this week against Carolina. Crosby has been as a good a kicker as anybody over the last season and a half. The biggest sleeper this week at kicker is Dan Carpenter. Carpenter has been solid for the Dolphins. Carpenter should get plenty of opportunities this week against the Rams. Also of note is that the Jets improved offense has helped Jay Feely become a very solid fantasy kicker this season.

Defense/Special Teams

  1. The Ravens are the top defense this week. The Ravens come off of their best week of the season and get a very bad Bengals offense this week. The Dolphins are the biggest sleeper this week as they go all the way up to number two against the Rams. The rest of the top defenses this week are the usual suspects. The only other sleeper in the top ten this week was the New York Jets. The Jets have been very good of late and join the top ten. They become a fringe play if you league does not count special teams. If you count special teams then there is no reason not to play the Jets, although the Broncos pass offense could put some numbers up on the Jets. The other sleeper this week on defense is the Bills as they get the 49ers. The 49ers have been better of late, but the Bills defense has improved. The Bills are a solid play against the 49ers and should be solid this week.
