2008 Fantasy Football Week 14 RecommendationsQuarterbacks
This has been a weak season overall for fantasy QB’s and this week highlights that fact. Few solid plays outside the top seven or eight. Kurt Warner gets another chance at a huge week, as they play the Rams. Matt Cassel and Matt Ryan move into the top ten due to solid play and good match-ups, Seahawks and Saints respectively. Peyton Manning is still in the top ten, although I have absolutely no confidence in him whatsoever. Chad Pennington gets a top ten this week against a hardly overwhelming Bills secondary. This has been a weak season overall for fantasy QB’s and this week highlights that fact. Few solid plays outside the top seven or eight.
Running Backs
Adrian Peterson should have an amazing week against the Lions, sit back and enjoy. Michael Turner has been outstanding and should continue to be great this week. Matt Forte gets a good match-up with the Jags, but also should be a bigger focus of the Bears offense. Peyton Hillis jumps into the top ten. He continues to run well and gets the Chiefs this week. Ryan Grant is a good play this week, but it depends on his health. My biggest sleeper for this week is Kevin Smith. His status is contingent upon the Vikings Williams’ not playing this week due to the suspension. Smith has been getting better and better, and the Vikings defense is nothing special without those two guys in the middle.
Wide Receivers
Look forward to a very good week for the top two Cardinals WR this week against the Rams. The top ten WR all should be solid this week as well; with the top eight being excellent plays. Bernard Berrian moves up thanks to an improved passing game and the Lions match-up. Lance Moore has moved into what appears to be a permanent spot in the top ten, as he continues to get better and better. Moore is having a season reminiscent of Marques Colston a few years ago bursting onto the scene from nowhere. Amani Toomer is the biggest sleeper this week. Toomer is now Eli Manning’s top target and he should be a good play as a WR3/Flex. He is a decent play as a WR2 in deep leagues.
Tight Ends
The top TE’s still remain unchanged this week. Tony Gonzalez looks to be back to his elite level over everybody else. Gonzalez has become very comfortable with Tyler Thigpen and the same for Thigpen. Dustin Keller is now clearly one of Brett Favre’s favorite targets and a must play every week. Antonio Gates has been as disappointing as the rest of the Chargers, but you still have to play him. Kevin Boss is the bigger mover/sleeper this week as he benefits from the absence of Plaxico Burress, just like Amani Toomer. Boss should continue to be a much larger focus of the Giants offense from here on out.
Kickers
Kickers are all about the same at the end of the year, so it comes down to a week-by-week match up question. My favorite kicker to jump up this week is John Carney. Carney has been good all season, and he should get many more opportunities with Burress out of the lineup. Also, Garrett Hartley is a solid bet to continue his excellent play for the Saints.
Defense/Special Teams
The Titans are entrenched as the top defense in the NFL right now. The Ravens defense also seems to be back to its old ways as a top tier defense. This week also sees several defenses jump up due to good match-ups. The Colts defense jumps up as the biggest sleeper against the struggling Bengals defense. The Cardinals defense jumps up as well due to the match-up with the Rams who are having very hard time on offense. The Jets stay in the top ten as well this week, getting the 49ers. The other defense that looks like a good bet this week is the Patriots. The Pats get the Seahawks who have been struggling all season long. It is a good bet that the Pats will scheme well enough to continue to make it difficult for the Seahawks to move the ball efficiently. Also, the signing of Roosevelt Colvin should help the Pats replace some of what has been lost due to injuries.
