2008 Fantasy Football Week 3 Recap

Atlanta Falcons 38, Kansas City 14

Fantasy Player of the Game

  • Michael Turner Atl - Turner bounced back from a sub-par performance in Week 2 with a three-touchdown game against the Chiefs. On 23 carries, Turner rushed for 104 yards.

Runner UP

  • Larry Johnson KC - Fantasy owners needed a solid game out of Johnson, especially with the questions surrounding the Chiefs offense. Johnson rushed for 121 yards on 24 carries and a TD.

Buffalo Bills 24, Oakland Raiders 23

Fantasy Player of the Game

  • Marshawn Lynch Buf - Lynch’s stock has risen since the draft, and he looks like a top 10 back in this league. He rushed for 83 yards against the Raiders and found the endzone twice. Lynch carried the ball 23 times and caught 4 passes for 31 yards.

Runner Up

  • Trent Edwards Buf - Trent Edwards is winning over the fans in Buffalo as he moves the Bills to 3-0 for the first time since 1992. The Buffalo QB posted 279 yards, going 24-39 and a TD. He brought the Bills back from down 9 in the 4th quarter with two scoring drives. Edwards faces St. Louis in Week 4 and should be considered as a starter for at least this week.

New York Giants 26, Cincinnati Bengals 23

Fantasy Player of the Game

  • TJ Houshmandzedah Cin - Cincinnati finally put up relevant fantasy points. TJ was worrying me, as I have him in two leagues, but his output in Week 3 has calmed my nerves, as well as his owners across the board. TJ caught 12 balls for 146 and a TD.

Runner Up

  • Chris Perry Cin - Perry scored a TD in consecutive weeks, and looks like the only option in the Bengals backfield. While his ypc is low, he still sees 20+ carries a game, and will catch a pass or two. Perry ran for 74 yards and a TD with a long of 25.

Miami Dolphins 38, New England Patriots 13

Fantasy Bust of the Game

  • Ronnie Brown Mia - Brown had a career game on Sunday, looking nothing like a player recently coming off an ACL injury. Using an option play where Brown lined up as the QB, he rushed for most of his 113 yards and scored 4 TDs, 3 of which came from that formation. He also threw a TD out of the option formation, totaling 5 TDs.

Runners Up

  • Anthony Fasano Mia - Fasano caught Brown’s TD pass of 19 yards and finished with 3 receptions for 66 yards. Fasano was held without a catch in Week 2, but has now scored twice in three weeks.

Tennessee Titans 31, Houston Texans 12

Fantasy Player of the Game

  • Lendale White Ten - White only rushed for 49 yards on 16 carries, but scored 2 TDs and looks to receive all of the goaline carries for the Titans. White is a great option at running back, even if he doesn’t get the yards or the bulk of the carries.

Runner Up

  • Steve Slaton Hou - Slaton had a big game for the Texans, and should remain starter even as Ahman Green returns from injury. Slaton rushed for 116 yards and a TD on 18 carries.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 27, Chicago Bears 24

Fantasy Player of the Game

  • Brian Griese TB - Griese threw the ball 67 times on Sunday, totaling 407 yards and 2 TDs. Griese will remain starter with Jeff Garcia benched for reasons unknown.

Runner Up

  • Matt Forte Chi - Forte finished with 89 yards on 27 carries. He also caught 7 passes for 66 yards and a TD. He had another TD stolen from him in the endzone by TB linebacker Barrett Ruud.

Washington Redskins 24, Arizona Cardinals 17

Fantasy Player of the Game

  • Larry Fitzgerald Ari - Both Fitzgerald and Boldin scored a TD in Week 3. Fitzgerald totaled 109 yards on 7 receptions with a long of 62 yards.

Runner Up

  • Santana Moss Was - Who would have thought after 3 weeks Santana is the most relevant Moss in fantasy football. Moss caught another TD pass and finished with 75 yards on 7 receptions.

Minnesota Vikings 20, Carolina Panthers 10

Fantasy Player of the Week

  • Vikings receivers - After the benching of Tavaris Jackson, and the promotion of Gus Ferotte, the Vikings have new life in their passing game. Bernard Berrian caught 3 passes for 79 yards and Visanthe Shiancoe totaled 38 yards and a TD.

Runner Up

  • Adrian Peterson Min - Peterson rushed for 75 yards on a bum ankle and played most of the game. He finished the game, which is a plus for his owners.

Denver Broncos 34, New Orleans Saints 32

Fantasy Player of the Game

  • Reggie Bush NO - The Saints are making it a point to give Reggie Bush the ball as often as possible. Bush has 26 receptions after three weeks, and scored another 2 touchdowns against the Broncos. Bush rushed for 73 yards on 18 carries and a TD. He caught 11 passes for 75 yards and a TD as well.

Runner Up

  • Brandon Marshall Den - Marshall leads WRs with 24 receptions, even though he did it in two games. He trails only Bush for the league lead, and followed up a huge Week 1 with another stellar performance. Marshall caught 6 passes for 155 yards and a 35-yard TD pass.

San Francisco 49ers 31, Detroit Lions 13

Fantasy Player of the Game

  • Frank Gore SF - Gore is flourishing in Mike Martz’s offense. Gore rushed for 130 yards on 27 carries and a TD. He also caught 4 balls for 32 yards.

Runner Up

  • Rudi Johnson Det - Rudi silenced his critics with a strong performance in Week 3. Johnson rushed for 83 yards on just 14 carries and caught 3 passes for 48 yards and a TD. Rookie Kevin Smith only carried the football 3 times, which is good for Johnson owners.

Seattle Seahawks 37, St. Louis Rams 13

Fantasy Player of the Game

  • TJ Duckett Sea - Duckett scored 2 touchdowns against a porous Rams defense. On 19 carries, TJ rushed for 79 yards.

Runner Up

  • Julius Jones Sea - Jones rushed for 140 yards and a TD on 22 carries. Seattle hasn’t run the ball this well since Shaun Alexander in 2005.

Philadelphia Eagles 15, Pittsburgh Steelers 6

Fantasy Player of the Game

  • Correll Buckhalter Phi - Buckhalter saw additional playing-time on Sunday due to a Westbrook injury, and didn’t waste his opportunity. The Nebraska product rushed for 43 yards on 10 carries, and caught 6 balls for 44 yards and a TD. Westbrook’s injury appears to be minor, but Buckhalter should see an increased workload in Week 4.

Runner Up

  • Hank Baskett Phi - Baskett caught 8 passes for 85 yards. With starters coming back for Philly, it will be important for Baskett to prove his worth.

Baltimore Ravens 28, Cleveland Browns 10

Fantasy Player of the Game

  • Le’Ron McClain - McClain split the workload with returning starter Willis McGahee. The fullback rushed for 66 yards on 17 carries along with 2 TDs. Ray Rice was the odd man out this week only seeing the ball 5 times for 21 yards.

Runner Up

  • Willis McGahee Bal - McGahee returned to the field of play and looked as if he didn’t miss a beat. He rushed for 64 yards on 15 carries and a TD.

Jacksonville Jaguars 23, Indianapolis Colts 21

Fantasy Player of the Game

  • Maurice Jones-Drew Jac - Jones-Drew and the Jacksonville running game came to life this week against a banged-up Indy defense. MJD rushed for 107 yards on 19 carries and a TD.

Runner Up

  • Fred Taylor Jac - Taylor led the Jaguars with 127 yards on 26 carries. His long was 34 yards. The tandem of MJD and Taylor appear to be relevant once again.

Dallas Cowboys 27, Green Bay Packers 16

Fantasy Player of the Game

  • Marion Barber Dal - Barber rushed for 140 yards on 26 carries and a TD. The Cowboys running game excelled as Felix Jones also contributed with 76 yards and a 60-yard TD.

Runner Up

  • Miles Austin Dal - A healthy Miles Austin could add another target for Tony Romo and the Cowboys. Austin caught 2 passes for 115 yards, including a 63-yard TD reception.

San Diego Chargers 48, New York Jets 29

Fantasy Player of the Week

  • Ladainian Tomlinson SD - LT played the entire game, as his turf toe appeared to be less of a hindrance on his production. He still didn’t have the burst we are used to seeing, but a two touchdown night is more than what was expected from a less than 100% Tomlinson. LT finished with 67 yards on 26 carries with 2 TDs and 20 yards receiving.

Runner Up

  • Phillip Rivers SD - Rivers had another big week for the Chargers. He threw for 250 yards and 3 TDs, helping secure the first win for San Diego.

NFL Fantasy Players of the Week

Gold – Ronnie Brown: 4 rushing touchdowns and 1 passing against the Patriots. Brown also rushed for 113 yards.

Silver – Michael Turner Atl: Turner scored 3 more touchdowns in Week 3 along with 104 yards.

Bronze – Reggie Bush NO: Bush can beat you many different ways and he showed that against the Broncos. Last week was a punt return; this week is a rushing and receiving touchdown. Bush had 11 receptions and 178 total yards in the loss for the Saints.
