2008 Fantasy Football Week 3 Waiver Wire Report
Each week Pro Football Fans will be bringing you all our waiver wire report where we identify players who are more likely to be available using your waiver position to add to your team. While we can't be sure that individuals will be available in your league, you can use this as a guide for all of your fantasy football decision-making as you work toward a fantasy football league championship. Ronnie Brown RB (Dolphins): Brown was un-owned in almost twenty-five percent of Yahoo Leagues and a similar number of ESPN Leagues prior to Sunday. I doubt that is the case any longer, but I had to mention him. I would love to know the percentage of leagues in which he was actually played last week.
T.J. Duckett RB (Seahawks): Duckett combined with Julius Jones to form a great tandem for the Seahawks on Sunday, albeit against one of two teams vying for worst in the NFL (Rams). Either way I kind of think Duckett is not a bad flex play against mid-level to weaker defenses simply due to his TD likelihood.
Brandon Lloyd WR (Bears): The Bears offense is desperate for somebody to throw the ball to consistently. Lloyd has the talent to be that player, but I am not sure I buy it off of one week. He is somebody to monitor, but do not get overly excited yet.
Titans Defense: I have extolled the virtues of this defense before in this forum. However, they are still widely un-owned and unused. I agree they lack top-end talent in the secondary, but it is amazing what an outstanding line will do for a defense. They are a must play, not just claim, against any non-elite offensive team (which very few seem to exist in the AFC this year).
Brian Griese QB (Bucs): Griese’s real life numbers looked mediocre, but his fantasy numbers were excellent. The Bucs won so he figures to continue playing and probably having similar lines. He is worth a backup spot for many fantasy owners who lack an elite backup, as he is capable of putting up big weeks, especially against the sub-par defenses that exist in the NFC South.
Le’Ron McClain RB (Ravens): McClain had a good week for a bad Baltimore offense against a bad Cleveland defense. He is similar to Duckett, except that he has more competition for carries with both McGahee and Rice in the rotation. Rice and he are similar players, so I would not get too anxious in claiming him. McClain is worth monitoring.
Miles Austin WR (Cowboys): A one-night wonder in all likelihood that benefited greatly from a terrible no call on either holding or offensive pass interference on his second touchdown Sunday night. Probably no value in a pick up here short-term or long.
Steve Slaton RB (Texans): I loved Slaton at West Virginia, but was not sure about his chances as an every down NFL type back. I am still not sold on that part, but he is an excellent fantasy pickup as a flex play. He should get most of the carries the rest of the way and is bound to have at worst flex type production.
