2008 Fantasy Football Week 5 Waiver Wire ReportEach week Pro Football Fans will be bringing you all our waiver wire report where we identify players who are more likely to be available using your waiver position to add to your team. While we can't be sure that individuals will be available in your league, you can use this as a guide for all of your fantasy football decision-making as you work toward a fantasy football league championship. Kyle Orton QB (Bears): Orton had a very big week against the Lions, scoring the third most points in ESPN’s fantasy scoring. He is not a player that promises much going forward. Orton would not be a bad play against weak opponents, but only if you have no other options.
Kevin Faulk RB (Patriots): Faulk has always been an important role player in New England. Unfortunately, fantasy does not give much reward to role players. The difference this season is that with the injuries to Laurence Maroney and Tom Brady the Pats offense has been forced to change. Faulk is going to get more touches, and should have a chance to get into the end zone with some frequency. Faulk is not a bad bet as a flex play, especially against weaker opponents.
Domenik Hixon WR (Giants): Hixon has been improving steadily over the last couple of weeks. He had a very good week with Plaxico Burress out do to suspension. Hixon will return to a reserve role on a Giants team that likes to run and does not face Seattle every week. I would not put too much stock into Hixon at this point.
Sinorice Moss WR (Giants): Moss has a very similar future to that of Hixon. The only caveat that I would add on Moss is his ability as a deep threat. Moss was drafted in the Second Round as a deep threat in 2006 and has been a huge disappointment. However, if he can break out as a deep threat for the Giants he would have some value; he is worth keeping an eye on for little while.
Nate Washington WR (Steelers): On the surface Washington looks to be another one-week wonder. However, Rothlesberger seems to like Washington quite a bit. If you watch the Steelers play it almost appears as if Washington is his second favorite target after Hines Ward. Washington is worth monitoring over the next few weeks if you need an option as a WR3, or Flex play in a tough week.
Matt Ryan QB (Falcons): Ryan had a very solid game against a defense that was supposed to be solid. Ryan was very efficient and continues to improve every week. Similar to Orton his fantasy value remains limited, but more than Orton he has enormous value in keeper leagues where he is a must grab.
Matt Prater K (Broncos): Prater has had two big weeks in a row, and a very solid overall year. The argument can be made he is the best kicker in fantasy football right now. Prater is a must start from here on out.
Devin Hester WR (Bears): Hester had a good week, including a TD catch. The Bears offense has been steadily improving. He is not a bad pickup as a flex play in deep leagues, especially if you get credit for his special teams yards.
Brandon Stokley WR (Broncos): Stokley had a good week against a solid defense in a low scoring game. All of those factors would figure to add up to continued success for Stokley, but it is more likely that he will return to a fairly mundane role in the Broncos defense. Stokley will probably have decent weeks from time to time, but I doubt it will be enough to take him too seriously.
