Breaking News: Brett Favre to Return or will he?

I know, I know if you are like me you are so tired of hearing will he or won’t he, he’s back or he’s retired, it has gotten so bad that on the television when sports casters are calling a NFL football game they are trying not to mention Favre’s name. Now it seems as though his return is inevitable as he flew into Minnesota but the big thing was he had three of his Viking teammates fly down to Mississippi, now we don’t know the details of the conversation at his home but evidently it made a big enough difference to have him come into the Vikings facilities.

Understand I don’t have a problem with him wanting to play for his 20th season, and I understand that his is a great quarterback that helps make the Vikings a better team but here is what I have an issue with: There are guys that bust their humps every season and love the game so much that they put themselves through the practices, the workouts, and the schedules, is it okay for a guy entering his 20th season to skip all of those things? Is it okay for Brett Favre to take everyone on a roller coaster ride at the end of every season wondering whether or not he will return? Are the Green Bay Packers sitting back and laughing thinking that they are glad it’s not them in this situation?

My thoughts, I believe that you know if you want to continue playing, if injured or unable to perform any longer, then you know, if you no longer have the desire to play or the passion to play the game then it’s time to take a bow. Brett Favre, let’s face it, loves the attention, he enjoys the media, the fans, the NFL looking at him to make a decision. I ask you who else would be able to get away with this. Who else would actually carry on like this? We hammer players like Terrell Owens, Chad Ochocinco, etc… about the things they do on and off the field what about with Favre? The thing that I wonder is did his teammates go down and beg him to return? Did they go down and meet with him for 15 hours and have to convince him to return? If so, is that a good team building activity? To go down to someone’s home and convince them that you need them and that you can’t do it without them (reminds me of an afterschool special). Favre is a great quarterback, there is no doubt about that just look at his statistics and his records, and he does make the Vikings a better team but how will this affect the team this season?

It will be interesting to see how this effects the team and the chemistry of the offense, return or not, retire or play he has had an amazing career but if it is time to go, it’s time to go. I really hope that the ending of his career is not him being carried off the field on a stretcher rather than the shoulders of his teammates. At any point can we please just end the drama and let’s make a decision for goodness sake.
