Let the Gun slinging continue
The longer Brett Favre remains in the NFL, the more likely he will be regarded as the best quarterback in NFL history. Despite numerous injuries throughout his career and problems with his throwing arm of late, his consecutive games record is still intact. He will always be remembered as a Green Bay Packer, where he led the team to a Super Bowl win in 1997. What separates Brett Favre from other legendary quarterbacks is that his level of play has continued to rise late in his career. While Joe Montana’s legacy was tarnished after playing with the Kansas City Chiefs and so is the case with Dolphins legend Dan Marino and Broncos Hall of Famer John Elway, Brett has consistently made his teams contenders. Brett Favre was on the brink of leading the Packers back to the Super bowl, but self imploded late in the game, which resulted in a New York Giants win and subsequent Super Bowl win. Last season, his first with the Minnesota Vikings, Favre, Adrian Peterson and a tandem of quality receivers led the team to what should have been another NFC championship for Favre. Once again he imploded late in the game and lost to the eventual Super bowl Champs the Saints. His time with the Jets was nothing short of impressive, he led a team lacking in every category (defence, offence, special teams) to a better than expected season. However, Favre was unhappy in New York and his late season implosion led to the Jets bowing out of the playoff picture.
As great as number 4 has been, he has developed a reputation as a player who has a tendency to through interceptions and turn the ball over when it matters the most. The all time leader in consecutive games played, passing yards, wins, completions and also interceptions. One thing that has never diminished in Favre is his love for the game. He continues to play with the emotion of a rookie, and thoroughly loves being on the field. The three time league MVP could have easily accumulated another one last season. The 2009 NFL season was statistically one of the best in Favre’s career. His QB rating and seven interceptions were among the best in his career.

At age 40, one cannot blame Favre for contemplating retirement. Every time he does so, it hurts us diehard NFL fans because he along with Peyton Manning are the only true blue legends at quarterback left in the game. Some would argue that Tom Brady should be in conversation, but he has always been surrounded by high quality teammates. Every place that Brett has played in, he has made the team a contender and the Vikings would be on the outside looking into the playoff race, if Favre had decided to hang up the cleats. Fans use to compare Gretzky to Lemieux as the greatest player of all time. Just like Lemieux, Favre’s play has been more consistent than any other competitor (Marino, Young, Elway, and Montana). Favre is the greatest Quarterback in NFL history. That statement will be cemented if Favre can lead his team to another Super Bowl win. Favre will not have a lacklustre season. He will repeat the success the Vikings experienced last season and perhaps even further that success in 2010. As long as his arm holds up, don’t be surprised if the Vikings are the champs this year! Brett Favre is a class act and despite his name being dragged in the mud recently, any team with Favre on the roster is a threat and if he’s on the roster, he will be starting.
