Same tune, same song - Those doubting the Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis Colts hats & merchandise

It is the same thing that has been talked about year in and year out with the Colts, the talk is that they are over the hill, they are on the decline, they can’t do it again this year, etc… but the fact remains that Indianapolis is one of theelite teams in the NFL and we must face the facts on this. The Colts were 2nd in the league in passing offense, granted the rushing attack was not the best and other teams knew that and yet they were still second in the league. When teams are on the decline in this league, other teams can stop them even when they don’t know what they will do, with the Colts teams know what they will do and they cannot stop them. Also, Indianapolis finished first atop the AFC south with a 14-2 record, and by the way the Colts have won 12 or more games in 7 straight seasons, looking to make it eight. I know that eventually they will be on the decline, but with Peyton Manning at the helm and young talent like Donald Brown and Jerry Hughes the future looks bright.

When you discuss the Indianapolis Colts of course you first speak on the high powered passing attack led by Peyton Manning. With Dallas Clark, Reggie Wayne, and a talented cast of young wide receivers the passing game is continuing to progress and grow. The key area of concern on offense is the rushing attack, with the drafting of Donald Brown last season and the continued rise of Joseph Addai the running game can get back on track and take some pressure off of Manning and the passing game. On the defensive side of the ball, re-signing Gary Brackett was a key offseason move and getting Bob Sanders back healthy will be vital to the Indy defense. Drafting the defensive end Jerry Hughes will help Mathis and Freeney as Hughes is a pass rusher in the same mold and will cause havoc on opposing quarterbacks. So overall the Colts are looking good for the upcoming season, but only time will tell.

It comes down to facts: Fact is the Colts have had one of the top offenses over the past 7 seasons, Fact in the past couple of years the defense has improved and is continuing to get better. Fact the corps of wide receivers has made strides and will continue to make strides in the upcoming seasons. Fact Peyton Manning has been one of the top quarterbacks in the league season after season. When you add up all those facts, it is plain to see that Indianapolis could find themselves back where they were last season but this time the final game outcome could be a little bit different.
