The Chiefs find they can’t tame the ColtsKansas City @ Indianapolis Game Recap
Coming into Sunday’s game the undefeated team was not Indianapolis it was the surprising Kansas City Chiefs (and I heard about it, a lot from a friend of the family). The Chiefs came into the game with a much improved defense and a solid running game with much to be desired in the passing attack. The Colts found themselves 0-2 in their division a real surprising start for a team that normally wins 12 to 14 games a year. For Indianapolis the question was not the offense, as Peyton Manning and his corps of receivers have done the job on the scoreboard the only problem is Indy’s defense has really had a tough time stopping any offense. For the Colts defense it is about pride and we all know that they have solid team leaders and they will get back to form and you can’t count out Freeney and Mathis, the two best pass rushing ends in the game today. Many felt that this game would be the end of the undefeated season for the Chiefs and for the Chiefs it was all about having something to prove. Let’s get to the rundown: It was quite a lack luster 1st quarter and the only score was from Adam Vinatieri for the Colts he kicked a 20 yard field goal and that was all for the scoring in the first and the Colts led 3-0. In the 2nd their was a little more action going on, the Colts added another field goal from Vinatieri as he hit a 24-yarder and the Chiefs Ryan Succop kicked a 45-yard field goal and that was it in the second so the score at the half Kansas City 3, Indianapolis 6. In the third both teams drove the ball up and down the field but neither could get into the endzone, again Vinatieri tacked on a 47-yard field goal and for the Chiefs Ryan Succop added two field goals one from 35-yards and another from 43-yards out. So the score at the end of the 3rd K.C. 9, Indy 9.
In the final quarter, finally there was a touchdown but before the TD, Vinatieri kicked a 42-yard field goal putting the Colts up by three. The Colts then had a 12 play 71 yard drive that ended with a Mike Hart 11-yard touchdown scamper and that would seal the deal as Indianapolis would emerge victorious, the final Kansas City 9, Indianapolis 19.
Key Stats: Kansas City Matt Cassel 16 for 29 156 yards 0 touchdowns 0 interceptions Jamaal Charles 16 rushes 87 yards 0 touchdowns Tony Moeaki 4 receptions 50 yards 0 touchdowns
Indianapolis Peyton Manning 26 of 44 244 yards 0 touchdowns 1 interception Mike Hart 11 rushes 50 yards 1 touchdown Reggie Wayne 6 receptions 75 yards 0 touchdowns
In this game we really saw that the Kansas City Chiefs are a contender, the defense played well holding the Colts to only one score and holding Manning to 0 touchdown passes. Moreover the Colts defense really stepped up and held a good rushing team to under 150 yards rushing for the total team. After much discussion about the lack of defense it was refreshing to see them rise to the occasion, if they can continue the Colts could definitely go on a winning streak.
