Carpenter’s leg keeps Miami undefeated on the road

Some say that Miami can’t win the way their red-zone offense is handling things on the field.  Apparently they haven’t met Miami’s kicker Dan Carpenter.  Carpenter is 10 for 10 on field goal attempts the past 2 games, that ties him for an NFL record in most consecutive field goals made in a two game span.  Carpenter is the ninth kicker to reach this feat in NFL history.  He single-handedly outscored the Cincinnati Bengals posting 16 points off of 5 field goals and an extra point.

Except for a few out-of-nowhere plays the game was dismal to watch and unexciting.  Dolphins Quarterback Chad Henne had pedestrian numbers and besides the two touchdown tosses to Terrell Owens, Carson Palmer had equally as bad numbers posting a low 63.0 passer rating.  T.O. was the offensive standout in the game posting 5 receptions for 65 yards and 2 scores.  On both sides the ground game was below-average at best, starting running backs Ronnie Brown and Cedric Benson were both held under 70 yards.  Ricky Williams showed that the old star can still shine at times on a 1 yard touchdown to seal it in the fourth quarter; earlier on the drive Williams had some nice runs that got the team to the goal line.

Defense was equally as dismal as neither team was able to post a sack on the opposing teams QB for the entire game.  Each quarterback was picked off once as Dolphins cornerback Sean Smith recorded his first interception killing the Bengals drive with less than 3 minutes left in regulation.  Cincinnati cornerback Morgan Trent stepped it up when granted the starting role, registering 11 tackles and 1 interception.

The Bengals are in the doghouse now with a 2-5 record, and their struggles will continue until they can get their act together.  At 4-3 the Dolphins are still definitely in the playoff race, but having the New York Jets and New England Patriots in your division makes things rough.

The Fins have a huge game coming up, playing at Baltimore this Sunday.  They hope to stay above .500 and establish a playoff spot some way or another via wild card or divisional crown.
