NY Giants Camp Update

Eli Manning won’t play Saturday in the game against the Steelers. He needs time to heal the three-inch gash on his forehead that required twelve stitches to close. He can’t wear a helmet, practice or play. Backup quarterback Jim Sorgi will likely be on the sidelines also. Sorgi was already dealing with a torn labrum in his right-throwing shoulder, and now has a torn right shoulder capsule, after taking a hit from Jet linebacker Lance Laury while throwing his second touchdown pass to Victor Cruz Monday night. He will be out 2-3 weeks. Third string quarterback Rhett Bomar took all the snaps in practice yesterday and will start. The Giants signed quarterback Dominic Randolph from Holy Cross, who was with them in the spring. Safety Antrel Rolle took some snaps with the quarterbacks for an emergency role. He had been used last year by the Cardinals in some Wildcat formations.

At least the defense is getting healthier. Safety Kenny Phillips and linebacker Keith Bulluck will both make their preseason debuts against the Steelers.

WR Ramses Barden is out with a back problem.

G Chris Snee won’t play. He has a knee issue.

LB Chase Blackburn is out at least three weeks with a torn MCL in his right knee.

Rookie Phillip Dillard took some reps at strong side linebacker in Blackburn’s absence.

LB Jonathan Goff had a strong practice and Gerris Wilkinson took some snaps with the starting defense, after a strong showing against the Jets.

Punter Matt Dodge experimented with a new “Aussie” style kicking, trying to improve his hang time.
