Manning Bloodied as Giants Beat Jets 31-16 In First Pre-Season Game

New York Giants hats & merchandise Despite a 31-16 victory at the new stadium, the Giants endured blood dripping from Eli Manning’s head after taking a crushing hit from the Jets Calvin Pace early in the first quarter of Monday night’s contest. Manning left the game, received 12 stitches and was under observation by the Giants medical staff. X-rays taken were negative.

Antrel Rolle intercepted Mark Sanchez’s first pass and returned it 59 yards to the 1 yard line. Brandon Jacobs followed with a short touchdown run. However, over-all the Giants starters did not play well. Jets head coach Ryan left his starters in for most of the first half. The Giants backups rallied from behind 16-10 to win the game. Rookie receiver Victor Cruz, an un-drafted free agent, was the star, catching 3 touchdowns passes.

The Giants first 2 picks from the 2010 NFL draft, defensive lineman Pierre-Paul and Linval Joseph, both played well in their first game and received praise from coach Tom Coughlin. Pierre-Paul beat Jets veteran right tackle Damien Woody for an eight-yard sack and Joseph was strong inside at defensive tackle. Ahmad Bradshaw had a 51 yard catch and run.

Matt Dodge, Giants rookie punter, did not have a good debut. He had one punt blocked and did not kick with any authority.

Next game Saturday vs. the Steelers.
