The Pros and Cons
There are many players in the NFL that may not be satisfied with their present playing situations. It is important that in this day and age the players are a part of the team in every way, on and off the field. It has become a very difficult task for coaches to keep the team focused on a common goal but that is what separates great coaches from fired coaches. As we all know there a few players in the league right now that have a ‘me’ complex, now maybe at some point they were team oriented and maybe they were all about team work and being a leader but at some point it changed. It became about what they want and it is about their needs but do we think that under the right situation could they be about team again? In this article we want to look at three players and weigh the pros and cons of having these players on your team and see where they would be most beneficial.
Albert Haynesworth- DT- Washington Redskins Fact is Haynesworth has worn out his welcome in D.C. he signed this mega deal but never really panned out for the Redskins. He had a couple of good seasons but never was as dominant as they had hoped on the field. His difficulty to adapt to different playing situations and his constant in-fighting with teammates and coaches signaled his demise in Washington. Pros: When ready, one of the most dominant defensive tackles in the NFL today, he can change the face of the game with his size and his drive. Cons: Not a very good teammate, questionable drive to play if not the right scheme, not sure where his head is at can he be coached? Good fit: Needs a solid head coach that can handle his personality, but has to get himself in order if he plans to remain in the league. Philadelphia, Seattle, NY Jets
Vince Young- QB- Tennessee Titans Seems like just yesterday when Young was holding the national championship trophy for the Texas Longhorns but it also seems like just yesterday when Young and the Titans struggled to have a good relationship. Vince has had his share of ups and downs while in the NFL but his disrespect of his former coach and his lack of desire toward his team has him on his way out in Tennessee. Pros: When on the field his passion to win is unquestionable, he is a duel threat quarterback that can pass and run the ball effectively. Cons: When he is off the field that is when the problems begin, he struggles with his confidence in the NFL, he is coachable (just ask Mack Brown) but he has not made the best name for himself in the locker room and this will be a hard sell for many teams. Good fit: Needs a good coach that will guide him also needs a good solid veteran to help him along the way. I believe he will be a good fit as a back-up right now but he could eventually work his way to a starting position after proving himself over time. Possible teams Jacksonville, Oakland, and Houston
Carson Palmer- QB- Cincinnati Bengals Palmer has truly struggled in the NFL, he had a couple of successful years in Cincinnati where the Bengals made the playoffs but I believe that he is realizing that he will not win with the Bengals. Palmer has been a good teammate (by all accounts) and has really worked with the Bengals it just may be time for a change. Pros: He has a desire to win and to be better, when he is in the zone he can make the throws necessary for his team to win, he can be a solid starter Cons: He is injury prone, he has limited mobility and does struggle to make the difficult throws, is he vocal enough to be a leader? Good fit: A solid coach that will be confident in him, a good veteran at back-up is important for him to lean on in times of struggle. Palmer can still be relevant in the NFL but the right system is the key for him to succeed. Possible teams Arizona, Buffalo, Carolina and San Francisco.
