Top Ten NFL draft steals

Now let’s be honest if your team didn’t make the playoffs or was ousted early on then chances are you are looking towards the NFL draft. The draft brings the top of the line college prospects to the fast- paced, hard- hitting game of pro football. There have been many draft day steals in the past and what we want to do in this article is look at my top ten steals. For many the draft is a way to bring in a franchise player and it can really make or break teams. As I did research for this article I was surprised by many that are on the list and I am sure there were many GM’s, owners, and coaches kicking themselves after seeing what these players have done and continue to do every game. Now understand that I only did ten and there are so many that could be on this list but these were the guys that stood out to me.

10. Brandon Marshall-WR- drafted in the 4th round in 2006

Marshall has incredible ability at the wide receiver position; he is big and physical and can make the big play. Over his short career he has been a two time Pro Bowl selection and over 5,000 yards receiving with over 400 receptions.

9. Marques Colston-WR- drafted in the 7th round in 2006

For the Saints the high powered attack needed a big time play maker and Colston fits the bill, in his rookie season he had 70 receptions with 1,038 yards and 8 touchdowns. Colston continues to make the big plays and it seems that he has found a home in New Orleans.

8. Terrell Davis-RB- drafted in the 6th round in 1995

Davis proved his worth for Denver rushing for over 6,400 yards in his first four seasons, he also ran the Broncos to wins in Super Bowls XXXII and XXXIII. Davis was a hard nosed runner who always fought for the extra yards.

7. Larry Wilson- S- drafted in the 7th round in 1960

Wilson played 13 seasons with the Cardinals and had over 50 interceptions along with making 8 Pro Bowl appearances, you will also find him in the Hall of Fame, not bad for a seventh round draft pick.

6. Asante Samuel- CB- drafted in the 4 th round in 2003

One of the premier cornerbacks in the NFL today, Samuel is known for his big play, big game heroics. He is a two time Super Bowl champion, a four time Pro Bowler, and a three time All-Pro selection, he already has over 40 career interceptions.

5. Shannon Sharpe- TE- drafted in the 7th round in 1990

Shannon Sharpe redefined how the tight end position was to be played, he talked a lot of trash but he also backed it up on the field. Sharpe won three Super Bowls and when he retired he held all the tight end records for receptions, yards and touchdowns.

4. Joe Montana- QB- drafted in the 3rd round in 1979

One of the most clutch quarterbacks of all time, Joe Montana was what made the 1980’s San Fran 49ers go. Montana won four Super Bowls and also is in the Hall of Fame, its not too often you find a franchise QB in the third round.

3. Deacon Jones- DE- drafted in the 14th round in 1961

I understand how some could say how is he ahead of… but listen in the 14 th round and you get this animal Jones played in 8 Pro Bowls (7 straight with the Rams) and he also won Defensive Player of the Year two times, and he was drafted in the 14 th round, wow.

2. Roger Staubach- QB- drafted in the 10th round in 1964

Staubach led the Cowboys to Super Bowl titles (VI and XII) He led the NFL in passing four times and he also found himself in 6 Pro Bowls. Staubach commanded his team and created the standard for the position with the Dallas Cowboys.

1. Tom Brady- QB- drafted in the 6th round in 2000

There was no talk of a super model wife in the year 2000, but Tom Brady worked himself into an elite NFL quarterback, Brady led the Pats to four Super Bowls and three championships. He has been the NFL MVP and also has the record for most touchdown passes in a season (50). The super model wife is just one of the perks of dedication and hard work to try and be the best in the NFL.
