Will Minnesota start the season 0-2? Don’t count on it
It was a tough road for Brett Favre and company to travel last week, but now they have some home cooking coming their way. The Miami Dolphins (1-0) come calling this weekend, but unlike last week, this one’s going to be at the Minneapolis Metrodome. It’s never easy facing a Super Bowl winner on opening day in their house, but the Vikings (0-1) did just that last week when they played Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. They ended up making a pretty good game of it as well, and the final score was 14-9 New Orleans. I don’t think the Miami Dolphins are a pushover by any means, but they are going into hostile territory in Minnesota, and facing a team that knows it could have beat the Saints last week, and they feel like they let a win get away. Do I think it’s possible for Brett Favre, Adrian Peterson and the rest of the Vikings offense to be held in check for two weeks in a row? No, but I wish the Dolphins luck in trying, especially when they have to attempt doing so on the road.

This is the Minnesota Vikings 2010 home opener, and in their last 23 home openers, they have a combined record of 18-5. The Miami Dolphins held the Buffalo Bills rushing attack to 38 yards on 14 carries last week, but then again, they were playing the Buffalo Bills. Adrian Peterson rushed for a respectable 87 yards last week in New Orleans, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he doubled that this week at home. Miami is coming into this game as six point underdogs, and this game could get ugly early if the Dolphins aren’t careful. A key one on one match up to watch closely in this game will be Minnesota’s defensive tackle Jared Allen verses Miami’s offensive tackle Jake Long. Jared Allen is a one man wrecking crew against opposing offenses in most games, and is a quarterback’s worst nightmare. Jake Long, son of Raiders hall of famer and Fox broadcaster Howie Long, has been solid on the offensive line, but then again, I don’t think he’s ever gone up against someone like Jared Allen before. In the end I think it’s going to be a case of too much Brett Favre/Adrian Peterson, and not enough Chad Henne/Ronnie Brown. My personal prediction for a final score of this game is 34-17 Vikings.
