Vikings 2010 Season Getting Uglier On And Off The Field

With the Minnesota Vikings latest loss to the New York Jets on Monday Night Football earlier this week, the 2010 season isn’t quite coming together like many of us thought it would. Now, along with them sporting a 1-3 record after their latest loss, distractions off the field appear to be taking their toll on this team as well. Brett Favre stood at the podium after the game expecting to answer reporters questions about his teams lackluster performance against the Jets, but it seemed that many reporters there wanted to talk about his alleged affair that he was having with a New York Jets cheerleader. Randy Moss freaked out on a reporter in the locker room after the Monday Night game, because the reporter wasn’t aware of the fact that Moss doesn’t speak to reporters one on one. What is going on with this team? Who are these Minnesota Vikings?

The final score of the Monday Night game was Jets 29 – Vikings 20, and if that wasn’t bad enough for them, it wasn’t even the biggest story surrounding this Vikings team after the game.

I could understand Favre not wanting to discuss his alleged extra marital affairs afterwards and wanting to focus on game questions only, and from what I saw and heard from the interviews after the game, he handled himself like a pro. Moss on the other hand, handled things very childishly. I have an idea for all of the sports reporters out there who are handling post game press conferences in the NFL. Next time Randy Moss breaks his self imposed silence against the media and holds a press conference, don’t bother showing up. I know that these reporters will still flock to Randy Moss next time he decides to talk, looking for a juicy sound bite, thinking that we all need to hear what he has to say, but trust me on this, we don’t. Most of us true sports fans aren’t interested in hearing what Moss is crying about, and honestly, most of us could really care less as well.

With this latest setback against the Jets, the Vikings are now tied with the lowly Detroit Lions for wins in the NFC North, and are two games behind the Packers, and three behind the division leading Chicago Bears. Favre apologized to his teammates after the game for the off field distractions he has caused, but no word yet if Moss apologized to fellow teammates for acting like a big baby and telling off a reporter who dared to ask him a question. Brett Favre did pass another milestone in his amazing NFL career on Monday Night, when he threw his 500 th touchdown. He ended up throwing three touchdowns in the game, and now has 502 for his illustrious career. His numbers for the entire game were 14 of 34 for 264 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 int. On the down side, Favre also passed Warren Moon for the most fumbles by a quarterback in NFL history. Adrian Peterson was held under 100 yards rushing and no touchdowns by the Jets defense. Are Viking fans pushing the panic button yet? I can’t say for sure, but I know that they have to have their fingers on the button.
