Favre Hurt Again, Vikings Lose On The Road Again

What a difference a week makes, that is of coarse, if you’re not a Minnesota Vikings fan. This was a different game with much of the same results for the Vikings. The Minnesota Vikings (2-5) have now lost consecutive road games two weeks in a row, with Brett Favre getting hurt in consecutive games two weeks in a row. The Vikings were beaten on the road Sunday, 28-18 by the New England Patriots (6-1), and are now 0-4 on the road for this 2010 NFL season thus far. Brett Favre was carted off the field late in the 4 th quarter, after getting a helmet to the face, courtesy of New England Patriots defensive tackle Myron Pryor.

Favre was able to speak with reporters after the game, after receiving eight stitches in his chin to close a wound. “My chins kind of numb right now.”

I think the bigger news in this game, was the fact that Favre was actually able to start this game in the fist place though. Favre started his 292 nd consecutive regular season game Sunday, only a week after having his surgically repaired ankle fractured in two places, in a loss to the Green Bay Packers. “I’m shocked that I was able to play and move around the way I was able to.”

Favre actually played really well in this game, and his final numbers for the game were 22 of 32 for 259 yards. Favre did have one interception in the game, but he could hardly be blamed for that. Percy Harvin had a ball stripped from him by New England, and the referees ruled it an interception.

Tavaras Jackson replaced Favre in the game and threw Minnesota’s only touchdown pass of the game in the 4 th quarter, but it was too little too late. Jackson finished the game 4 of 6 for 36 yards and one touchdown.

Vikings head coach Brad Childress had good things to say about his quarterback after the game. “Besides the one pick, I thought he played great.” Childress also sounded as if he didn’t want to dwell on this loss, and was already looking forward to next week’s game. “We didn’t do enough to win this game. It’s a bitter pill to swallow, but we still have nine games to go. It’s important to realize that this game isn’t coming back, and we have to cast our vision forward.”

I’m sure that everyone on the Vikings defense also wants to leave this game in the rear view mirror as well.

This once vaunted Minnesota Vikings defense barely put any pressure on Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, and he was able to convert third and long situations all day long. Brady finished the game 16 of 27 for 240 yards and one touchdown. Believe it or not, this Vikings defense has now gone 4 games in a row, without recording a sack of a quarterback. While the Vikings lost the game, they won the time of possession battle. The Minnesota Vikings offense actually held the ball longer then the Patriots. Minnesota had the ball for 35:08, while New England only had the ball for 24:52. Adrian Peterson had another strong game rushing, and finished the game with 92 yards rushing and one touchdown.

Randy Moss wasn’t a factor in this game and finished with only one catch for 8 yards. Moss held a press conference (more like a temper tantrum) after the game, and stated that he won’t speak to the media for the rest of the season. Next up for the Vikings, they go back home, and await the 3-4 Arizona Cardinals.
