Tim Tebow is one of the greatest college Quarterbacks in NCAA history, leading the University of Florida to two National Championships (2007, 2009) and winning the Heisman Trophy (2007), among other awards he won while in Gainesville. As great a college Quarterback Tebow was in college, pro scouts and NFL analysts didn’t believe he would make a good NFL Quarterback because he does not good have good accuracy or good footwork. When Tebow entered the 2010 NFL Draft, some NFL experts predicted he would go in the second or third round, while some others predicted he wouldn’t make it in the league at all. The Denver Broncos surprised everyone by taking Tebow in the first round, meaning he would be guaranteed a roster spot and NFL contract. Tebow played in Wildcat formations throughout his first season backing up QB Kyle Orton. When Orton got injured towards the end of last season, Tebow started the final three games of the season, going 1-2 as the starter. His only win as starter he led the Broncos back from a 17-0 deficit at halftime, threw for 308 yards, threw and ran for a touchdown for a 24-23 victory of the Houston Texans.

At the start of training camp to the start of the 2011 season, there was an open competition for the Broncos starting quarterback position between Tebow, Orton, and Brady Quinn; Orton won the job, Quinn earned the backup role, which meant Tebow was the third-string Quarterback. Orton may be the team’s choice, but Tebow is the Fans choice. Going into the Broncos opening game of the season against the Raiders in Denver, The team, or more specifically Orton in particular, needed a good game to assure the fans the coaches made the right choice naming him the starter over Tebow. The Broncos struggled to move the ball offensively and Orton fumbled the ball, leading the Broncos to their only offensive Touchdown in the last few minutes when the game was already decided. For The last eight minutes of the game, Fans chanted for Tebow to come into the game. The Broncos organization and their fans are a city divided at the present time. The Fans want Tebow to be the starting QB, but Orton has the support of the people in Denver who opinions who do matter, his teammates (including Tebow, who feels flattered the Fans want him to start, feels every decision the coaches make is best for the team) new Head Coach John Fox, and the new Executive Vice President of Football Operations, John Elway. Some fans in Denver want Tebow to start so badly, they are even offering to pay ten thousand dollars for a billboard to say “Start Tim Tebow”. The Broncos are at a standstill with their fans, one that can ruin their 2011 NFL season just as soon as it gets started. As long as Tebow is on the team, and/or if Orton struggles a little bit, the fans preference for Tebow will be evident. I believe to show their fans they are the ones in charge, not them, the Denver Broncos have to get Tim Tebow off their team, either by trading him to another team that will take a chance on him, or just release him. The move to get Tebow off their team would show the sports world how much confidence they have in Orton, and let them grow as a team by getting rid of a distraction a NFL team doesn’t need if they are going to be sucessessful. Denver Fans will be upset and disappointed at first, but they will come around like they always do. Tebow would be better off too if the Broncos let him go as he could go to a team where he can develop as a NFL Quarterback without having the fans of that team chant for him to come in and start before he is ready. It’s best for everybody involved that Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos go their separate ways.
