What Will the Chargers do with Norv?

Chargers hats & merchandise Perhaps the biggest question that surrounds the Chargers right now is what they are going to do with their head coach Norv Turner at the end of the season. Losing stirs up a lot of rumors and the Chargers disappointing 4-6 record this season has put Coach Turner in a hot seat that the Devil himself would find uncomfortable. Turner has had a very respectable regular season winning percentage of over .600 with the Chargers but his struggles to form talented teams into Super Bowl Champions has led to his down fall and the increased upheaval among fans requesting that he be replaced. But like everything in this world money will most likely be the deciding factor in determining the fate of Turner. After the 2009 season Coach Turner signed a three year contract extension which does not end until after the 2013 season. If the Chargers were to let go of Turner this season they would have to pay him the remaining two years of his contract which would be a very large amount of money. It will be up to the Charger’s front office to decide whether to let Norv go and pay him the rest of his deal or keep him and see if he can right the Charger’s ship that has been steadily sinking the last couple of years. Luckily for Norv and the rest of the Chargers there are still six more games left in the season to make something happen on the field, before any decisions have to be made off of it.

Heading into week 12 the Chargers are looking to snap a 5 game losing streak against a Denver Broncos team that is riding the waves of a three game winning streak. The Broncos are led by quarterback Tim Tebow, who has fought off a lot of criticism to bring his team into the AFC West title conversation and only one game behind the first place Raiders. The Charger’s defense will do their best to contain Tebow from making plays with his legs and force him to prove himself as a passer. On the offensive side of the ball the Chargers will be facing a stingy Broncos defense that has only allowed an average of 15 points over the last three games. Quarterback Phillip Rivers has had a tough season so far but is always capable of a breakout game and looks to make up for a week 11 performance in which he threw two interceptions. Look for big play receiver Vincent Jackson and rookie wide out Vincent Brown to make solid contributions to the offense as Malcolm Floyd will sit out once again with an injury. The Chargers on paper should be able to come away with a victory at home, but with momentum and Tim Tebow on the Bronco’s side anything can happen and this should be an entertaining division battle to watch.
