Kansas City Chiefs at San Diego Chargers Preview

In 2009 the Kansas City Chiefs finished with a record of 4-12 and lost at San Diego by a score of 43-14. In 2010 KC improved all the way to 10-6 & won the AFC West title, but their road trip to play the Chargers resulted in a 31-0 loss. Sense a trend?

This weekend the Chiefs travel to San Diego carrying with them the fourth worst start in the history of the NFL having lost their first two games by a combined score of 89-10. The Chargers 3 rd ranked offense goes up against the Chiefs 24 th ranked defense. KC’s 30 th ranked offense takes on San Diego’s 18 th ranked defense. San Diego is favored by as many as 16 points.

Chiefs Head Coach Todd Haley is on the hot seat, speculation as to his replacement is running rampant. The Chiefs let Sean Smith go via free agency, and then they lost Tony Moeaki, Eric Berry & Jamaal Charles to season ending torn ACL’s. Matt Cassel is trying to play hurt without much success. #1 draft pick Jonathan Baldwin has been a total bust so far.

This match up, therefore, reeks of another blowout. Fantasy Football Owners starting Phillip Rivers, Vincent Jackson, Antonio Gates, Ryan Mathews & Mike Tolbert must be grinning ear-to-ear. It would appear the Chargers are ready to light up the scoreboard in this matchup.

But, this is the NFL. KC must have some pride deep down inside. Surely they are embarrassed about their output in the first two games. So, I’m taking the Chiefs & the points. I won’t be so bold as to predict a win, but something tells me this game will be closer than most people think, primarily as that is a bog contrarian opinion.

Here’s your final: San Diego 31 Kansas City 20
