Week 9 Game Recap - Atlanta Falcons @ Indianapolis Colts
The Indianapolis Colts have found themselves on the losing side of the ball for all of the 2011 season, in part to many injuries on both sides of the ball. As always the factor of Peyton Manning not being on the field have reduce the Indianapolis offense to literally a shell of its former self. On the defensive side of the ball the loss of Gary Brackett for the remainder of the season was a hard blow to the defense, but the Colts press on. For Indianapolis the struggle has been putting points on the board and the question still remains where will the offense come from? For the Atlanta Falcons they are one of the most talented teams in the league on the offensive side of the ball with names like Ryan, Turner, Gonzalez and White Atlanta can put points on the board in a hurry. On the defensive side of the ball is where they have struggled as of late but coming into this game they look to continue their winning ways as they eye their 3 rd win in a row. The Falcons on draft day made a huge splash as they moved up in the draft to select Alabama wide receiver Julio Jones and in this game Jones showed why the Falcons believed he was worth every penny spent.
1st quarter The Falcons get on the board first as Turner punches it in from 1-yard out and the Falcons continue to put points up as Ryan connects with Jones from 50-yards out to put the dirty birds up two scores. The score at the end of the 1 st Atlanta 14, Indianapolis 0
2nd quarter The connection continues as Ryan hits Jones for an 80-yard touchdown pass and the Falcons are looking like a well oiled machine. The Colts finally get on the board as Powers intercepts a Ryan pass and takes it in for the score and the score at the half Atlanta 21, Indianapolis 7.
3rd quarter The one touchdown in the third belonged to the Falcons as Ryan hits Gonzalez from a yard out putting the Falcons back up by three scores 28-7
4th quarter The Falcons tack on a Bryant 20-yard field goal to make the final score Atlanta 31, Indianapolis 7
The Colts continue to struggle on offense as Painter didn’t even break 100 yards passing and Dan Orlovsky even saw a little playing time, the bright spot was Donald Brown getting 16 touches for 70 yards but again no offense for the Colts. For the Falcons Matt Ryan came to play tossing 3 touchdowns and passing for over 270 yards, Julio Jones was the main attraction as he caught only 3 passes for over 130 yards and 2 scores.
