Preseason Indianapolis Colts vs. St. Louis RamsLet’s face it we knew going into the game on Saturday an Indianapolis Colt team without Peyton Manning isn’t really much, but it does help in getting those other quarterbacks ready for the season. Fact is since Manning has been in the league he has been durable, reliable and just the every down quarterback for the Colts. The Colts have always relied on having Manning do his job and show up every Sunday to make play after play and he does. This season is definitely different for Manning and for the Colts, as Manning is recovering from offseason neck surgery he will be sitting out most of the preseason which will allow many of the guys who don’t get the reps to take many snaps this preseason. It all starts with the game on Saturday night, there has been much talk about finding a replacement for Manning and if it continues as it did on Saturday it might be a good idea. It is always challenging for many back-ups but it gets even more challenging with a shorten time to work together. For the Rams they are looking to get better after last season behind the arm of Sam Bradford and the hard nosed running of Steven Jackson. The Rams were so close to the playoffs but a late season loss kept them from the post season, this year they are looking to make some noise in the division and in the NFL. Here is how Saturday’s game was played:
1st quarter: The Rams get on the board first with a 6-yard pass from S. Bradford to Lance Kendricks The Colts get on the board with a 23-yard field goal from Adam Vinatieri The Rams strike back with a 30-yard field goal from Josh Brown and the score at the end of the 1st quarter Rams 10, Colts 7
2nd quarter: The Rams get on the board again with the newly acquired Cadillac Williams with a run from 1-yard out and Josh Brown adds on 2 field goals one from 21-yards out and another from an amazing 60-yards and the score at the half Rams 23, Colts 7.
3rd quarter: Again the Rams strike first with a Keith Toston 5-yard touchdown run The Colts strike back with a 44-yard pass from D. Orlovsky to Taj Smith and the Rams tack on a 53-yard field goal from Josh Brown and the end of the third Rams 33, Colts 10
And that was the final score as there was no scoring in the 4th quarter the Colts go down to the Rams in the first preseason game in 2011.
