Week 3 Game Recap - Indianapolis Colts vs Pittsburgh Steelers
We all knew that coming into Sunday night’s game that #18 would not ride in on a white colt and rescue the team with another stellar performance, so it was all Kerry Collins. The Colts have really struggled on the offensive side of the ball as they have settled for field goals on many of there drives. Kerry Collins is a good quarterback, but it seems that he really did retire for a reason maybe this complex Colts offense is just too much for him to comprehend? At any rate the Colts were looking to get things back on track but against the Pittsburgh defense is not an easy task. For the Steelers after taking a thrashing in week 1 against the rival Ravens the Steelers looked like the team of old against the Seahawks shutting them out and coming into this match-up they were looking to restore the solid rushing attack. No doubt the running game would be there and what happens when you establish a running game the play action pass and deep throws become available. I believe going into this game everyone thought that the Steelers would just dominate but that is why they play the game:
1st quarter: The Steelers strike first as S. Suisham connects on a 48-yard field goal after a 7 play 50-yard drive. Later Ben Roethlisberger finds Mike Wallace for an 81-yard touchdown connection putting the Steelers up by 10. The score at the end of the 1 st Steelers 10, Indianapolis 0.
2nd quarter: The Colts finally get on the board as A. Vinatieri hits on a 21-yard field goal. The defense for the Colts was swarming and on a strip sack by Dwight Freeney, Jamaal Anderson picks up the fumble and rumbles 47-yards for a touchdown. A. Vinatieri connects on a 25-yard field goal to end the half the score at half time Steelers 10, Colts 13.
3rd quarter: There was no scoring by either team
4th quarter: The Steelers get on the board first as S. Suisham hits from 44-yards out, not to be outdone by the Indianapolis defense the Steelers make a little noise as T. Polamalu scoops up a C. Painter fumble and carries in for a 16-yard touchdown. The Colts strike back as a drive led by C. Painter (10 play, 80 yards) end with a 6-yard touchdown run. In the final seconds of the game the Steelers drive down the field and S. Suisham connects from 38-yards out for the game winning field goal. Final score Pittsburgh 23, Indianapolis 20.
