Cowboys Release Andre Gurode

Dallas Cowboys hats & merchandiseThe Dallas Cowboys, a while back, traded away a main piece of its franchise. His name? Andre Gurode. Andre Gurode has been a crucial and integral part to this offensive line, offense, and to the team in general. On and off the field, Andre Gurode has led by example. Yet, due to financial problems, the Dallas Cowboys traded away one of the most famous offensive linemen in the NFL.

Is this a good or a bad move? I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, this is a good move as David Akrin will be able to step into the role as the starting center. Akrin has been getting raving reviews from the coaches. Akrin is also only a second year center, but he has shown great maturity for his age. On the other hand, this offensive line is too inexperienced. The Dallas Cowboys have already slated Tyron Smith as the starter at the left tackle position and have released several veteran offensive lineman—namely Leonard Davis and Marc Colombo. The ‘boys need to protect Tony Romo from getting sacked too much (especially after his surgery), and this move does not help the line too much in the short run.

If anything, I believe that Andre Gurode should have been traded for fair compensation. Many people around the league believe that Andre Gurode is a top five offensive linemen, and this is seen with his many nominations into the pro bowl. The ‘boys could have received at least a fourth round pick for Andre Gurode and, honestly, this could have helped Dallas quite a bit. Yet, Jerry Jones decided to throw away this trade chip for absolutely nothing. Trust me, this will come to hurt the Dallas Cowboys quite a bit.

Finally, I thought that I would talk about my predictions for this coming year for the Dallas Cowboys. I believe that the Dallas Cowboys will end up with a 9-7 record for the year. I also believe that the team will be second in the division and sixth in the NFC. The Cowboys do have a fairly tough schedule and it doesn’t help that the Philadelphia Eagles are getting bigger and badder every day.

Overall, the Dallas Cowboys HAVE improved from last year. The addition of Rob Ryan should help quite a bit. If you remember correctly, this team was the same team that was a number one seed a couple of years ago. If the Cowboys can stay in shape and disciplined, look out for this team to be a potential dark horse.
