Are The Dallas Cowboys preparing to make a big move?

Dallas Cowboys hats & merchandiseThe lockout has just ended and many teams have made some major moves. Among these teams is The Dallas Cowboys who has just released some key players from last year. Here, I will break down The Dallas Cowboys moves thus far and what they mean for this team.

First to go was Roy Williams. After spending a 1 st and a 3 rd round pick for this former pro bowl player, the team lost its patience with Roy Williams. Not only is the team saving money, but the team is also allowing Dez Bryant to become a starter with Miles Austin. Dez Bryant had an excellent rookie year with a mediocre quarter back and he should be able to continue his success. This made Roy Williams expendable.

Another major move was the release of Marion Barber. MBIII has been the face of this franchise for the last couple of years, but his running style has cut his career short. Jerry Jones was able to cut Marion Barber because of The Cowboy’s immense talent and depth at the running back position. This move, like the move with Roy Williams, will allow young talents Tashard Choice, Felix Jones, and Demarco Murray a chance to play.

Next, the Cowboys released offensive linemen Leonard Davis and Marc Colombo. The offensive line was atrocious last year, but I expect Marc Colombo to resign with the Dallas Cowboys. This move will also give space in the starting lineup for the team’s first round pick, Tyron Smith.

Finally the Dallas Cowboys has just resigned Doug Free (offensive line), Marcus Spears (defensive line), and has signed all of the team’s rookies. Doug Free was the team’s major free agent, and without him the team’s offensive line would lack pro bowl talent.

Now, what does all of this mean? You have the Dallas Cowboys releasing several key players for cap space and restructuring players’ contracts. Well, this can only lead to one sign--- Nnamdi Asomugha will be signing with the Dallas Cowboys. Asomugha’s agent has already said that there are two teams in the running: The Dallas Cowboys and The New York Jets. We all know how deep Jerry Jones’s pockets are. If The Dallas Cowboys sign Nnamadi Asomugha, the team’s defense will improve drastically. The team has always had trouble with talent in the secondary, but this could all be fixed with the addition of pro bowler Nnamadi Asomugha. If the Dallas Cowboys sign this star, expect Terrence Newman to be released.

Off season grade thus far: B+. The team has been quiet—for the most part. Still, Jerry Jones has made some great moves both in this free agency period and in the draft. Cowboys fans should be very pleased.
