New York scrapes past winless Dolphins

For 55 minutes, the Miami Dolphins thought they were going to win this ball game. However Eli Manning had something to say about that and sent the Dolphins to 0-7.

The Giants run game was non-existent and the defense played for only one half. Many people now believe that the NFC East is Philadelphia's to lose.

But it was Eli Manning who saved the giants from humiliation when he threw a 25 yard TD pass to Victor Cruz with 5:58 left in the game. "We knew coming in it would be a tough battle," Manning said. "A lot of games have come to the fourth quarter, and we knew it would be a tough road. They did a lot of good things defensively, ran a lot of different blitzes. We didn't run the ball real well today, and we had to throw the ball more than we wanted to. But we're capable of doing that."

Another loss for the Dolphins must be putting Tony Sparano under extreme pressure, but Sparano's been under this sort of pressure since week four. Either Ross can't find a replacement, or Sparano will be fired at the end of the season. "We went toe to toe with them, swung hard. We didn't win. It's not acceptable," Sparano said.

The Giants entering the game thought it would be a walk in the park, but it was anything but that and Tom Coughlin knew that. "We knew we were going to get pressure," Coughlin said. "We probably got pressure 40-50 percent of the time. It caused some issues with the running game (58 yards). But Eli made some big plays. Obviously he threw the ball a lot today. No turnovers, no interceptions, and he made plays when we had to have them. Once again, he did a very good job."

Manning finished the day 31-45 for 349 yards and 2 TD's. Manning on the day didn't throw any interceptions as well which was important for him and his confidence. "He is a clutch player," said center David Baas who joined the team this season. "No matter what happens, he stays calm and rises to the occasion."

There have been rumours circulating around the Dolphins camp this week about Bill Cowher replacing Tony Saprano as Dolphins head coach. But Cowher made a statement on sunday saying no one has approached him about a job and he intends to work for CBS TV again next season.

The Dolphins scored on 2 consecutive drives which is the first time they've accomplished that all season. Moore looked like Tom Brady on their first two possessions driving 66 and 90 yards.

But on the last drive Moore was sacked twice and was then picked off by Cory Webster on a fourth down play to end the game effectively. Moore finished the day with 138 yards and a rushing TD.

Also on a very rare positive note, Reggie Bush rushed for 103 yards. His highest rushing yards in a game this season.

This was a game the Dolphins could have and should have won, but they will now look at what went wrong and try to sort things out in Kansas next week. But for now, the Dolphins are officially the last ranked team in the NFL.
