“Dream Team?” so far not so much

Eagles hats & merchandise

If the Philadelphia Eagles are a dream team, the fans in Philadelphia as well as many NFL viewers worldwide are still waiting for them to show. Through the first three weeks of the regular season the Eagles have only been able to muster a spotty 1-2 record. Week 1 Philly clearly didn’t need half of the big time free agents they signed in the off-season as they played the Saint Louis Rams. Week 2 saw the Eagles play very well for most of the game down in Atlanta against the Falcons, that is until Michael Vick was taken down by an Atlanta defensive back and collided helmet to helmet with one of his own lineman. That seemed to take the wind out of the Eagles sails for a bit and in the end Matt Ryan led the Falcons back and over Philadelphia.

This past Sunday in week 3 is where fans started to question their big name players. The Eagles hosted the arch rival Giants and going into the game many people believed they would crush the injury ravaged G-MEN. What actually happened was the Giants owned all of the game except the second quarter and beat the Eagles 29-16 on their own turf. A side note that has seemed to emerge in all of this mess is Michael Vick himself, as for the second straight week he left the game with an injury. Clearly Vick is getting frustrated as well as after the Giants game he criticized officials for not throwing flags on some of the hits delivered by Giant defenders. One thing is obvious if the Eagles are going to live up to their dominant reputation. That is that they are going to have to do whatever they can to sure up this offensive line otherwise Vick is going to be down and possibly out many more times this season along with Philly’s high hopes.
