Is Michael Vick truly worth 100 million dollars?

Eagles hats & merchandise

If we look at the state of the NFL coming into this season there are a lot of contracts being handed out, many to those who are looking to hold on to those that are franchise tagged. I am sure that many of the teams coming into this season prior to the lockout were somewhat nervous about the situation of many players. The lockout really set a few teams back in what they wanted to do with their offseason, but nonetheless they must press forward. The Eagles are one of those teams, with the ‘dream team’ in place in Philadelphia the team really looked to set the foundation and that was signing Michael Vick. With Vick the Eagles have the added dimension of a quarterback that not only can pass but can beat other teams with his feet. Now in the past it was Donovan McNabb that led the Eagles to many conference championship appearances but could not get them to the ultimate prize, the Eagles are banking on Vick to get them there. Literally.

The real question is does Michael Vick truly deserve a 100 million dollar contract? Let’s look at the situation when the Eagles signed Vick it was really a testing period. They signed him on a 2-year contract with the plans of him being the 2 nd string quarterback, but injuries catapulted him to the starter and he never looked back. The fact is Vick is one of the most dynamic athletes to play the game of football, why? Anytime you see a young quarterback that can not only throw the football but can make plays with his feet he is usually compared to Michael Vick. There have been many quarterbacks that can hurt you with their arm and feet but none as dynamic as Vick, but is he worth the money? In my opinion, no, I believe the Eagles could have settled on much less for him, don’t get me wrong he is an electrifying player but to keep the team together, especially the ‘dream team’ it will take many contracts. If we look at Peyton Manning the Colts wanted to make him the highest paid player in the NFL, but Manning chose less money to help the team sign others. In this case I say is Vick in the league with Manning, Brady and Rodgers not as of yet. As we know in the NFL sometimes you can have one solid season and that will make you bank, let’s hope for the Eagles sake Vick and the team can duplicate his success last season, with a different outcome.
