Falcon’s secondary has serious problems

Going into the season the Falcons secondary was already questioned as the weak spot for the Falcons that quarterbacks would be able to expose, and on Monday night that theory was proved like an Albert Einstein theory. Drew Brees absolutely torched the Falcons secondary and had his way in breaking Dan Marino’s single season passing record. It would just a bad night for the Falcons secondary, they couldn’t stay with the Saints receivers and at times they looked lost before Drew Brees even snapped the ball. The Falcons have already clinched a playoff berth, but they won’t get far with the way the secondary is playing.

The Falcons signed Dunta Robinson last year and many thought that he would help the Falcons secondary drastically and yet the only thing that he has done consistently for the Falcons is get fined. Too many times Dunta Robinson has been getting beat or he just let’s his receiver go past him, because he is confused. Robinson has clearly not lived up to his big contract money, and with the way how he’s been playing I don’t know if he will get any better. The only players that I really see in the secondary that are playing well are Brent Grimes and William Moore. Brent Grimes is such a valuable piece to the Atlanta Falcons that I would not be surprise if when his contract is up after this season that the Falcons would trade Robinson to clear up space so they can sign Grimes long term. Grimes has been a playmaker for the Falcons ever since he was a starter and showing to be the only real effective cornerback for the Falcons.

With William Moore it looks like my prediction is coming true, I said that Moore was a superstar on the rise and with the way he played against the Saints you can see why. Moore had numerous opportunities to pick Drew Brees off last night that he didn’t capitalize on, and he made a great play in the end zone when the Saints looked like they were about to score he tipped the ball in the air for a Dominique Franks interception. It’s very clear to me that if the Falcons secondary is going to step up their play it is going to have to start with Brent Grimes and William Moore playing their best football.
