Falcons are waiting on the real Matt Ryan

After the Falcons did what they were supposed to do in beating the winless Colts they have now won three in a row and seem to be getting things together. They only committed one penalty all game and we finally saw that explosiveness that they were talking about in the offseason. With all this said there is one player who has still not shaken off his rust and it is the most important player for the Falcons, and that is Matt Ryan. Ryan threw another interception against the Colts and now has 9 interceptions on the season, his total from all of last season. Ryan is also struggling with his accuracy; he is still missing his throws which he can’t continue to do if the Falcons want to be successful.

Ryan did throw for 3 touchdown passes against the Colts, but he only completed 14 of 24 passes which is only 58 percent. Ryan has just not been able to get in a rhythm with his passing which is unusual to see. During the Falcons last eight games of the regular season they need Ryan to step up and make plays. They have the New Orleans Saints next week at home and they still have to play the Saints again in December. You pretty much know what Drew Brees is going to give you every week, and that means the Falcons need their offense to continue to score points.

Decision making is what is hurting Ryan as he has made some unnecessary throws. Last year he was smart in taking what defenses were giving him and not forcing anything that wasn’t there. This year it seems with the acquisition of Julio Jones he is trying to force the downfield pass, which is not Matt Ryan. He needs to get back to completing the passes that are open and stop trying to make the big plays. I know Ryan wants the offense to be more explosive, but he has to be patient and make better decisions with his throws. If Ryan can get on track then the Falcons are in good position to repeat as NFC South champions.
