2011 Draft player profiles…Cam Newton
In this installment of articles we want to profile many of the players that your team could spend a draft pick on. There are many highly touted college players in this years draft but as we have seen in the past sometimes you can find that diamond in the ruff. Everyone is hoping that their team can pick that ‘can’t miss player’ and if your team is lucky enough to find that player he could change the face of the franchise for years to come. For players coming into the NFL they are looking to make a huge splash with the team that takes them but more important is winning over the fan base and impacting not only the team but also the city. Cam Newton Height / Weight: 6-5 / 248 Birth date: 05/11/1989 Age: 21 School: Auburn College Experience: 3
Newton bursts onto the scene in 2010 leading the Auburn Tigers to a national championship. With many questions surrounding his character, there is no doubt that Newton is a freak on the field. With the ability to run at any time, he always has shown that he can make the throws that are required at the quarterback position. At the University of Auburn he broke many records and reached many accomplishments: -Heisman Trophy winner - Auburn’s first Maxwell and Davey O’Brien award winner - Walter Camp Player of the Year award - recorded 20 touchdown passes and 20 rushing touchdowns in a season - recorded 5 of the top 50 Auburn rushing performances - Auburn’s second player to rush for 170+ yards in four consecutive games - recorded over 1400 rushing yards in 2010 - recorded 28 passing touchdowns the most in a single season for Auburn - scored 126 points in the 2010 season, the most ever in a single season for Auburn University There is no doubt that Newton is physically built for the NFL but is your team willing to give Newton a chance? At Auburn Cam did amazing things in leading them to a national championship but can he have that same magic in the NFL? I think that under the right system and under the right veteran leadership Newton can have a huge impact but it will take some time.
