Packers defeat Lions in shootout

Chicago Bears hats & merchandiseThis past Sunday, in a NFC North showdown, the Green Bay Packers played their final regular season game by defeating the Detroit Lions 45-41. Aaron Rodgers, the probable NFL MVP of the year, sat the game out while back-up quarterback Matt Flynn led the team to victory. Other notable Packer players took rest, too. Charles Woodson, Clay Matthews, Bryan Bulaga, Greg Jennings, James Starks, and Randall Cobb were all inactive, resting up for the playoffs. The Packers (15-1) have already locked up the number one seed this season; however, this was a big game for the Lions (10-6), who would've gained the number five seed with the win. By losing to the Packers, the Lions will now have to face the New Orleans Saints or the San Francisco 49ers, both of whom are at the top of their division.

The final game, played at the Packer's Lambeau Field, topped off an impressive season for Green Bay, and this is the second win over the Lions this season. Flynn set Packers franchise records with 480 yards passing and six touchdowns. Flynn sealed the deal for the Packers during the fourth quarter with 1:10 left by throwing a touchdown pass to Jermichael Finley. Although defeated, Lion's quarterback Matthew Stafford still had a good game, throwing for 520 yards with five touchdowns and two picks. This win for the Packers leads them into the playoffs on a good note, where they have home-field advantage and a first week bye.
