Veteran Defensive End signs with the Patriots Ellis should definitely help the Pats’ pass rush. They know all too well of how Ellis can get after the quarterback; just ask Tom Brady, who was sacked twice by Ellis in last season’s playoff showdown against the Jets. Now it is time to see what it is like for Ellis to play on the other side of one of the NFL’s hottest rivalries. Rex Ryan was his typical candid self when he addressed the Patriots latest move. “The Fact that he chose them and all that, like I said before, there’s no way I’m going to wish him well,” Ryan said. “I hope he stays healthy, but I don’t want him to play that well; especially against us.”
Ellis made the Pro Bowl in the 2003 and 2009 seasons. He’s third all-time on the Jets career sack list, trailing only Mark Gastineau and Joe Klecko. If he is able to stay healthy he should definitely make an impact on the Patriots defense. He has been a versatile player throughout his career and has played a several different defensive schemes since he first joined the Jets. It shouldn’t take him long to become proficient in Belichick’s scheme; Ellis is another one of those crafty veteran-type players that his new head coach loves to have.
