Week 6 Season – St. Louis Rams @ Green Bay Packers
ST. LOUIS – On October 16, the Packers had their sixth regular season game of the year and the Rams had their fifth of the year because of last week’s bye. The Rams are coming off a close comeback loss at home two Sundays ago against the Washington Redskins and the Packers are coming off a comeback two-score win in an away game last Sunday night against the Atlanta Falcons. Pre-game notes: The Packers are squaring up against two former players that are now starting Rams players: CB Al Harris and LB Brady Poppinga. The Rams signed WR Nick Miller and CB Brian Jackson as replacements for WR Danny Amendola and CB Bradley Fletcher because of season-ending injuries. The Packers are wearing their 1929 throwback uniforms today. The Packers’ starting LT Chad Clifton is inactive due to injury and will be replaced by Marshall Newhouse. The Packers’ LB Frank Zombo is making his first start of the season today and RT Bryan Bulaga is starting at RT after missing the past two games. Packers S Morgan Burnett played with a club on his injured right hand. The Rams’ newly signed CBs Jackson and Roderick Hood are inactive, as is Miller. The Rams’ starting LB Ben Leber and WR Mike Sims-Walker are also inactive, as well as RB Jerious Norwood. 1st quarter: On 4th-and-12 at the GB 29, Rams K Josh Brown unsuccessfully kicked a 47-yard field goal by just missing to the right. On 4th-and-8 at the STL 14, Packers K Mason Crosby successfully kicked a 32-yard field goal. Rams 0 Packers 3 On 4th-and-11 at the STL 19, Rams P Donnie Jones punted the ball 30 yards and it was downed at the STL 49. On 4th-and-2 at the STL 41, Packers P Tim Masthay punted the ball 25 yards and it was fair caught at the STL 16. On 4th-and-3 at the GB 41, Rams QB Sam Bradford threw an incomplete deep right pass intended for WR Danario Alexander.
2nd quarter: On 1st-and-10 at the STL 35, Aaron Rodgers, QB for the Packers, threw a deep left pass to WR James Jones, which resulted in a touchdown and extra point by Crosby. Rams 0 Packers 10 On 4th-and-17 at the GB 49, Jones punted the ball 42 yards and it was downed at the GB 7. On 1st-and-10 at the GB 7, Rodgers threw a deep left pass to WR Jordy Nelson, which resulted in a touchdown and extra point by Crosby. Rams 0 Packers 17 On 4th-and-4 at the STL 36, Jones punted the ball 31 yards out of bounds at the GB 33. On 2nd-and-goal at the STL 7, Rodgers threw a short left pass to WR Donald Driver, which resulted in a touchdown and extra point by Crosby. Rams 0 Packers 24 On 1st-and-10 at the GB 18, Brown successfully kicked a 36-yard field goal. Rams 3 Packers 24 3rd quarter: On 4th-and-10 at the GB 44, Masthay punted the ball 32 yards out of bounds at the STL 24. On 4th-and-4 at the GB 44, Jones punted the ball 30 yards and it was fair caught at the GB 14. On 4th-and-2 at the GB 48, Masthay punted the ball 52 yards into the end zone for a touchback. On 1st-and-10 at the GB 10, Bradford threw a medium left pass intended for Alexander and the ball was intercepted by CB Sam Shields who was tackled in the end zone for a touchback. 4th quarter: On 4th-and-13 at the GB 29, Masthay punted the ball 67 yards and it was returned to the STL 21. On 4th-and-20 at the GB 41, Jones punted the ball 29 yards and it was fair caught at the GB 12. On 4th-and-3 at the GB 30, Masthay punted the ball 46 yards and it was returned to the GB 37. On 4th-and-6 at the GB 15, Bradford threw an incomplete short middle pass intended for TE Lance Kendricks. On 3rd-and-5 at the GB 20, Rodgers threw a deep middle pass intended for WR Greg Jennings and the ball was intercepted by S Craig Dahl who returned it to the STL 49. On 4th-and-12 at the GB 34, Bradford was sacked at the GB 41. On 3nd-and-12 at the STL 37, Rodgers knelt to the STL 38. End game Post-game notes: The Rams lost RB Cadillac Williams for the rest of the game. Rams T Rodger Saffold was hurt on the last offensive play. Shields eventually went to the locker room after his interception after getting hit in the head on the play. Packers DE Jarius Wynn was also injured. Rams RB Steven Jackson almost had his first 100-yard rushing game of the season and Alexander almost had his first 100-yard receiving game of the season. Nelson had a 100-yard game today on only two catches, thanks to the long 93-yard catch-and-run for the TD, which is a career-long pass play for him and Rodgers. Rams WR Greg Salas had the most receptions (8), Jackson had the most carries (18) and Bradford had the most passes (44). Déjà vu almost happened for the Rams when Bradford threw a backwards pass to Williams, though this time the ball bounced out of bounds for a loss of 16 yards. In a loss that was deserved, the Rams got killed by the Green Bay “Cheese heads” Packers 24-3. The Rams are still winless and the Packers are now the only undefeated team. The most surprising stat considering the score is the total net yards. The Rams actually had 424 net yards as opposed to the Packers’ 399. The Rams had four more penalties and were sacked two more times than the Packers’ totals. Each team had one interception and no fumbles lost, though the Rams did have two fumbles. No points were scored in the second half by either team. The big stats of the game were touchdowns and efficiency. The Packers ended up with three and the Rams ended up with zero. The Rams were terrible in the red zone going zero for three. However, the Packers were one for two in the red zone with a touchdown and field goal. The Rams were also zero for one on goal to go and the Packers were one for one. The Rams were one for two on field goals, while the Packers were one for one. The Rams were one for four on fourth down and the Packers were one for one. The season is looking even worse for the Rams, now that they are 0-5 in the regular season; they are five games behind the San Francisco 49ers. I am officially declaring that the season is over for the Rams and they will not win this year’s division for the first time since 2003 or make the playoffs for the first time since 2004.
