Despair or glory? The Minnesota Vikings, new season

With the new season approaching and a new stadium in the works, how do the Minnesota Vikings fare this season? The draft is over, but negotiations for the stadium, are still under way. Arden Hills is the site and $1 billion is the difference. Who is paying for this is the question? The new stadium would require $1.5 million public operating subsidy, from the county. The governor sent a letter to the team saying "just as the Minnesota Vikings require a return on your investment, the people of Minnesota do also."

The Vikings are contributing $407 million to the $1 billion project. As far as talent is concerned, things are looking to shape up for the Minnesota Vikings. The Vikings main problem? A sturdy quarterback. With Brett Favre retiring for the third and final time, left the team no choice but to search for a long term replacement at the quarterback position. Many are wondering who is going to be new on the team this year? Two quarterbacks already in the pocket. The Vikings have added one more. Christian Ponder, from Florida State. Was picked number one and hopes to shine at his position. Suffering an elbow injury and a concussion in 2010, how does the quarterback position really look?

Training camp is right around the corner and the Vikings are gearing up for war. The Vikings took Kyle Rudolph from Norte Dame, with a second round pick. Rudolph intends to light up the Tight End position and put points on the board, which is what the Minnesota Vikings need if they want to make it to the main dance. Rudolph was appointed the Vikings top pick. Many other young names have been added to the roster, hoping to boost the team's moral levels. Who will rise to the occasion when the lights come on? The past few years have been rough on the Vikings.

Getting close, but no cigar in the 2009 season. The Vikings hope to finally reach the Super Bowl and take home the big one. Losing all 5 chances they've had at capturing the prestigious crown, one can only speculate that things can get better. They went 12-4 and with 2010 looking bright. It was anything but that. It was arguably one of the most disappointing seasons for the Minnesota Vikings. Minnesota ended the season with a 6-10 record, finishing last place in the NFC North. Things didn't exactly go the way people imagined. The Vikings had many distractions during the season. Trading Randy Moss and waiving him within only a month later. Brett Favre also made headlines, with allegations of him sending inappropriate text messages to Jets' employee Jen Sterger, while he was with the team in 2008.

A winter storm dropped nearly 17 inches of snow in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area on a Saturday prior to a December 12th home game versus the New York Giants. Wind gusts up to 30 miles per hour, drove snow removers off the dome's roof that night. As the massive weight of the snow piled on top of the roof, it didn't take long for it to finally collapse overnight, forcing the team to play elsewhere for the rest of the season.

Finally, head coach Brad Childress, was fired on November 15th, 2010 following a loss to the hands of rival team, the Green Bay Packers. The team’s defensive coordinator, Leslie Frazier, was hired on as the team's new head coach January 3rd, 2011. Signing to a three year contract and wasting no time. Frazier started with the coaching staff, firing offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, hiring Mike Singletary as linebackers coach, and putting Bill Musgrave on as the new offensive coordinator. With all the new changes, past drama and the new arrivals, the Minnesota Vikings can only go up hill from here with their persistence.
