Miami Dolphins 2008 Preseason Game Recap
Dolphins Top Saints 14-10
The Miami Dolphins defeated the New Orleans Saints 14-10 Thursday night for their third straight preseason win. The Dolphins have finished the exhibition season 3-1, a positive accomplishment for a team which won only one game all of last season. Running back Ronnie Brown helped assuage concerns about his surgically repaired knee, rushing for 47 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries. Brown ran powerfully and instinctively, hitting open holes quickly. Head coach Tony Sparano has not yet revealed whether Brown or Ricky Williams will be his opening day starter at running back. Williams has received a healthy amount of praise from the coaching staff this offseason, and recently received a 1 year contract extension for his impressive play. Quarterback Chad Pennington only played two series, completing 2 of 4 passes for 27 yards. Chad Henne made a pair of mistakes, throwing an interception and fumbling deep in Miami’s own territory. Henne was otherwise impressive, completing 16 of 20 passes for 137 yards. Earnest Wilford, a disappointment thus far in training camp and the preseason, finally made his presence known. Wilford caught two passes for 35 yards, including a 26 yard dart from Henne and an impressive run after the catch following his other reception, in which four Saints were needed to corral him at the one yard line. Wide receiver Davone Bess continued his solid play, displaying quickness and agility on punt returns despite fumbling the ball out of bounds on one return.
