Eagles wet their pants in public again

Eagles fall to Ravens

Hopefully this week Donovan McNabb and his minions have studied the Football Rules For Dummies handbook and are prepared to play an NFL team this week. Or last weeks tie against the Division I Bengals may have proved to be the fork stuck in their rear end.

Eagles hats & merchandise On a positive note the Eagles defense is having a very solid season. The sacks are up again and the defensive front is pretty stout against the run. They have been exposed at times however. (See Clinton Portis) Against the Ravens they will have their hands full with McGahee, McClain, and Rice. Who have the potential to mirror the NY Giants backfield trinity.

If the sacks continue they should have a chance to keep rookie Baltimore QB Joe Flacco guessing and out of rhythm. Although, he may be a rookie but he doesn't back down. He has held his own thus far in his debut year. The Ravens offensive coordinator Cam Cameron was also in San Diego and faced the blitzing Steelers so he has some experience against exotic schemes.

The offense? In typical Andy Reid fashion they usually render themselves a one dimensional team. Even against the god awful Bengals they decided they had to throw the ball 58 times! They have 13 points to show for it. Brian Westbrook's situation remains a problem. Clearly he is hampered by injury yet again. For a guy who whines about the media being critical about his durability he doesn't give much reason not to be. Which the fact they we have no back up plan is not his fault. In fairness, Buckhalter actually can do similar things to Westbrook out of the backfield. And yet Andy doesn't evidently feel that way. But that still doesn't address their desperate need for a hard nosed off guard rusher. Not to mention the debacle at fullback. No disrespect to Dan Klecko but you can't expect a guy to learn a new position on the fly.

It's doubtful then that the Eagles will sustain any continuity in Baltimore. I doubt they can play as bad as they did last week but that won't matter. The Birds are going to get cooked this week and kiss the playoffs good bye.
