Giants host Cowboys in NFC East showdown

This weekend the Giants face a beaten down Dallas Cowboys team at home in an NFC East grudge match. On paper, this should be an easy win for the Giants who just went into Pittsburgh and beat the Steelers who are very strong, and very talented. In contrast the Cowboys are very unhealthy.

For the 5-3 Cowboys the injury bug has hit hard. T.O.’s quarterback Romo is out. Jason Witten is listed as questionable with a broken rib. Running back Felix Jones is sidelined with a partially torn hamstring. Still, Dallas looked strong defensively against Tampa Bay in week 8. And, Brad Johnson played well enough to win. So what do the Giants need to do to grab a win?

The Keys to a Giants Win

  • Get Pressure on the QB - Roethlisberger was sacked, hurried, knocked down and basically abused last week by the Giants front 4. If the Giants keep that up against the Cowboys you can expect a win. The Giants are on top of the league with 26 sacks. Considering Brad Johnson’s complete lack of mobility, look for that number to be at least 30 by the end of the day.
  • Control the Ball - The Giants need to control the ball. The Dallas defense stepped up against Tampa Bay last week. If the Giants control the ball and the clock, the Cowboys defense will get tired and make mistakes.

The Giants offense did not look very strong against the Steelers. But, the Steelers have the #1 defense in the league. The running game was not at its best. So, look for the Giants to establish the run early this week. A strong run game this week should equal a win.

The Pick

The Giants should be able to win at home here. However, Dallas’ back is to the wall so look to them to come out swinging. The Giants win here, but do not cover, 24-20.
