Jets Score 56?

Jets score 56 in win over Arizona

I’m not going to say my presence in the Meadowlands on Sunday led the Jets to score 56 points, but it is a little convenient, don’t you think?

I couldn’t believe the amount of points the Jets put on the board on Sunday, but I was more shocked that the Jets busted out those dreadful Titans of New York jerseys. Let’s get this straight: if you claim to be a Jet fan and buy one of these jerseys, or even if you are just a regular dude and buy one, you need to have your head examined. Woody Johnson’s decision to let his people force feed these jerseys down the throats of Jet fans proves that he knows nothing about sports and he embarrasses me as a fan of this team. I know I will never be able to get a job writing for the Jets on their website after saying this, but sales gimmicks, cheerleaders, and sadly Jenn Sterger do not belong next to Broadway Joe’s retired jersey.

Let’s get to the game before my head explodes.

New York Jets hatsThe Jets did what you have to do to beat the Cardinals. They played to win the game. Oh wait, wrong coach. If Kurt Warner quarterbacked my team he would scare me more than Sarah Palin. The Jets were able to put up so many points in the first half because he was more careless with the ball than Jason Williams, the white one. Let me just clarify before I move on. I hate Kurt Warner.

Now that we have that cleared up, is Ken Whisenhunt (that’s right I didn’t spell check that) out of his mind? I know Warner threw for 900 yards in the second half, but he turned the ball over 5 times in the first half and almost KILLED Anquan Boldin. I know Matt Leinart isn’t “his” guy, but come on. Would the 12 fans of the AZ Cardinals rather have the Heisman Trophy winner play or Kurt Warner play and set a single season record for turnovers and nearly kill one of the top 10 receivers in the league. Shouldn’t Roger Goodell step in here? I feel like Leinart could have his own reality show on E!, but for some reason Kurt Warner is allowed to put up irrational fantasy numbers in a game where he turned the ball over SIX times and almost MURDERED the second best player on the team. Good work Ken. No wonder why the Cardinals have won one playoff game in the last 700 years.

I give the Jets credit for taking advantage of the Warner’s mistakes and putting their foot on their throat in the first half. The Jets scored 34 points in the second quarter to set a franchise record. Brett Favre got the ball to his playmakers and the guy behind me referred to 18 passes as “ah that’s a Pennington pass, this coach sucks” even though they were working. Times were good.

But…

The Jets are the only team that can make you worry when they are up by 34 points at the half, and in the second half they lived up to every Jet fan’s downtrodden expectations. The defense let the Cards score 21 points in what seemed like 5 minutes and forced Broadway Joe…, I mean Brett Favre to throw a couple more touchdowns that everyone in New York not named Mike Francesa seemed to notice.

It’s really hard to pinpoint what we can take away from this game. In the first half, the Jets defense put up the greatest fantasy numbers I have ever seen. In the second half, the defense was awful. On a positive note, Darrelle Revis is definitely going to the Pro Bowl this year, but since no one actually watches the Pro Bowl it doesn’t really matter. Offensively, the play calling was very effective at times. With the Jets desperately needing a score, Marty’s son let Favre air it out and the Jets put one in the box. However, the Jets could not put the complete package together on Sunday, and have yet to put together a complete game.

Not many fans can come away from a game in which their team won by 20 and feel disappointed. The Jets didn’t completely blow a 34 point lead, but they let their foot off the gas and let the Cardinals make it a game. If Frank Reich played, they probably would have lost.

As the Jets go into their bye week, they need to get things clicking on all cylinders. The Jets need to work on the line play on both sides of the ball. The team stands at two and two and can still be primed for a run at the playoffs, but if they play the way they’re playing now, Brett Favre throwing for 6 TDs will have to be a routine practice for them to make it happen.
