Jets Drop One at Home to the PatsJets fall to Patriots 19-10
The Jets have taken a beating the last few days and it think it may be somewhat unwarranted. Yes, okay, they should have thrown the ball at least once on the goal line. I agree. Thomas Jones only scored once last year, its not like he’s Walter Payton, or William “the Refrigerator” Perry, put the ball in the air. The play calling on the whole was not terrible. The offense takes more shots downfield than it ever would last season, but on that one series they had to put the ball in the box and it didn’t happen. The responsibility for that falls solely on the coaching staff and that criticism is deserved.
The Jets offensive struggles don’t surprise me too much. This was only Favre’s second game in Jets green and it looks like it. I think with more reps, the offense should get better, or at least I hope. They are running the ball much more effectively this season so far, minus the 3 plays last week when they couldn’t get one yard which kind of lost them the game. Thomas Jones and Leon Washington both look on their game with Jones averaging 4.4 yards a clip. The quicker Favre learns the offense and gets into “a New York groove” to cheese this article up a little, the better the Jets will be. Favre gave you Sunday what you would expect. He gives you some of the good with some of the bad. The good was good (shocking, I know). He kept the defense honest and completed a long ball to Larry Coles and lofted a perfect ball to Chansi Stuckey for a score. Favre’s gunslinger mentality also leads him to do things like throw that abominable pick to Brandon Meriweather. When the offense begins to click, the Jets should be a force to be reckoned with, but the questions remains, when will the offense begin to click? The Jets defense kept them in the game on Sunday, and has played very well so far early in this season.
The Jets defense has surprised me so far. Kris Jenkins single handedly turned the D-line into a force to stop the run. Bryan Thomas already has more sacks through 2 games this season than he had all of last year. Calvin Pace sacked the quarterback in each of the first 2 games as well (at least for half a sack) and the secondary is flat out good. Darrelle Revis shut down Randy Moss and rookie Dwight Lowery has proved the coaching staff right for making him a starter. However, this team hasn’t put it all together and may never put it all together. This is why I am awake at night. That and the fact that I have a growing addiction to meth. All I ask is that this team finally puts it together and makes a run at the Super Bowl. For once (ok, maybe the 4,653rd time) I am begging and pleading because if it doesn’t happen in the next couple of years I’m going to have to pull a Vinny Chase and grow a fat beard and go into seclusion in Mexico.
For the second straight week, I came away disappointed, but it is early. After the Jets get killed Monday night in San Diego, I will officially be depressed. But let’s face it, it could be worse, I could be a Dolphins fan.
