Panthers prepare for frozen Tundra of Lambeau

Carolina Panthers hats & merchandiseThe Carolina Panthers will be visiting the hopefully unfrozen Tundra in Green Bay in a very important game for both teams. The Panthers missed out on a chance to be 9-2 for the first time when they got spanked by the Falcons.

Carolina’s run defense has been slipping of late and really needs to get back on track for the Panthers to contend for the NFC South Division in 2008. The offense looked better even though they lost to the Falcons.

Keys to a Panther win on offense

Jake Delhomme looked good for the first time in several weeks. He needs to keep in that grove and continue working the play action pass game. I would like to see the tight end and running backs used more in the passing game. Jake tends to force the ball to Steve Smith more than he should.

Carolina needs to keep the game close early and not get behind like the did against the Falcons. That way they can keep their two headed monster running game going with Williams and Stewart. If the Panthers get behind and have to abandon the run then they struggle. Their pass offense is based on play action passing set up by the fear of their running game.

Keys to a Panther win on Defense

Carolina needs to go back to the basics and relearn how to stop the run. Green Bay is a subpar running team but could look great against the Panthers. But the real key is to get pressure on Packer Quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

If Rodgers is allowed to stand in the pocket will no rush in his face he can and will pick a defense apart. Carolina will have to double cover Wide Receiver Greg Jennings who is averaging an amazing 18.0 yards per catch in this era of dink and plink football.
