Patriots Will Attend To Many Off-season Issue
With the franchise tag placed on Matt Cassel, its clear the Patriots are looking to trade him as Brady is on schedule to return to action at the start of the 2009 season. Cassel’s projected salary would match Brady’s if New England does not give up his contract. Being the highest rated backup quarterback, there is interest from struggling offensive teams like the Chiefs, Lions, and Rams. The start of the combine next week in Indianapolis will allow New England to see potential draft picks in action. Drafting linebackers, cornerbacks, and safeties would help to revamp the secondary. The Patriots would also benefit from picking up players that will be free agents this season, since several teams have franchise players who are expected to be released. However with all of the spending that was done in the past few years, New England will need to spend wisely and save up for future off-seasons.
