Hut, Hut H - IKE!

Hurricane Ike causes postponement of Ravens @ Texans

Hurricane Ike blitzed Houston Friday into Saturday and broke down the coverage of Reliant Stadium. Ike blew the game that was moved from Sunday to Monday, clear into November.

The game will now be played November 9, 2008. So this week turned out to be a bye week that wasn't really a bye week. Both teams prepared all week expecting the game to be played. Moving the game Monday was seen as a precaution. It turned out the game had to be moved to later in the season because of damage to Reliant Stadium.

Baltimore Ravens hats All things considered though this was the only option the NFL had. Naturally the Texans have their hands full of cleaning up and getting things in order after the monster storm plowed through the area.

Hoping that everyone is okay and life will get back to normal, there is no way of knowing what impact this will have football wise.

If you are the Baltimore Ravens on one hand you wanted to play this game to build on the progress you demonstrated last week. You had good reason to believe you could get a win in Houston. On the other side of the coin you certainly can't complain under these circumstances. And not to sound insensitive, you at least do not have the day to day concerns of a Hurricane damage to worry about. You got an extra day off too.

From a personnel standpoint it is one week you probably were not going to have Willis McGahee available. This week he may play. Also although the players most likely prefer a break, they got an extra week of practice under their belt. For a rookie QB and a young team that can only be good thing.

Not to be overlooked is the fact they got to stay home the entire week and play at home this week with struggling Cleveland coming to town.

We will preview that game this week.

And it we all would like to wish the residents harmed by IKE a speedy recovery or a bright new beginning in the case of those who lost their homes. I am sure the Ravens organization is more concerned with their well being than having to postpone a football game.
