Pittsburgh Steelers 2008 Training Camp Update

The Steelers training camp opened up on Monday with their first practices. With camp only being a week in, the Steelers have had a lot of ups and downs.

Pittsburgh Steelers hats The downs for the Steelers so far:

They started the week off with putting three players onto the physically unable to perform list. Safety Troy Polamalu (hamstring), nose tackle Casey Hampton (conditioning) and offensive guard Chris Kemoeatu (triceps) all have injury concerns, and there has been no set times yet for how long these players will be out. Punter Daniel Sepulveda will be having season-ending knee surgery within the next week to repair his torn ACL.

The ups for the Steelers so far:

Lamar Woodley has made a giant step during training camp. He will be starting this year in the position of Clark Haggans. He has made a giant effort to learn the position better and the playbook better so there is little error. The linebacker out of Michigan was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers on the second day of the 2007 NFL Draft. The battle for the starting center spot is heating up. The Steelers went and signed Justin Hartwig during the offseason. Hartwig is competing with the Steelers starting center from 2007, Sean Mahan. Limas Sweed has shown Mike Tomlin that he is a playmaker in just his first week of NFL camp. On Wednesday Sweed went down with cramps during practice. Coach Tomlin did not allow him to return so they can protect him and allow him to rest so they can have him for Thursday’s afternoon practice.
