Minnesota Vikings Week #9 Recap

The Vikings came home after the bye week and welcomed the 3-4 Houston Texans to The Metrodome. The Texans brought a three-game winning streak north with them.

The Vikings beat Houston 28-21 as RB Adrian Peterson rushed for 139 yards and one touchdown and QB Gus Frerotte threw for three touchdowns. More importantly Frerotte only threw one interception, though it was returned by Houston CB Jacques Reeves for a touchdown. WR Bernard Berrian had 104 receiving yards, albeit on just two receptions, and a touchdown as well. The Vikings outrushed Houston 177-62.

On the defensive side, the Vikings held Houston WR Andre Johnson relatively in check, as he had just four catches for 62 yards and a touchdown after he entered the game leading the NFL in receptions. They had four sacks (DE Jared Allen-2) and two interceptions, including one by S Madieu Williams in his Vikings’ regular season debut. Minnesota did allow Texans’ TE Owen Daniels to catch 11 passes for 133 yards and rookie RB Steve Slaton had over 100 total yards, but otherwise it was a solid defensive effort.

The Vikings now find themselves tied for second in the NFC North with the Green Bay Packers at 4-4. And the rival Packers come to town in Week 10 in what looks to be a big game for positioning in both the division and the NFC in general. The Vikings will also be looking to avenge a Week 1 loss to the Packers.
