For the third time this season, the Chicago Bears suffered a defeat to the due to the horrid play of quarterback Jay Cutler. Cutler, who threw a career worst five interceptions, still had a chance to lead the Bears (4-5) to victory over the San Francisco 49ers, but threw his second red zone interceptions of the game on the final play of the game. The Pro Bowl quarterback didn’t get much help from Chicago’s running game, as they struggled once again to produce on the ground. The offensive line only managed to help running back Matt Forte to get 41 yards on 20 carries. However, Forte did compensate for his low rushing numbers with eight catches for 120 yards (both game-highs). Tight end Greg Olsen also chipped in with 75 yards receiving on seven receptions.

As usual, Chicago only had one bright spot in the game. In this case, it was the defense. Despite allowing 49ers running back Frank Gore to rush for over 100 yards, and the game’s lone touchdown, the Bears’ defense held San Francisco to 216 total yards. They also shut down 49ers tight end Vernon Davis, who had some negative things to say about Chicago’s defense leading up to the game.

With seven games remaining in the regular season, the Chicago Bears must find the underlying cause of things and start winning in order to have a chance at a wildcard berth. Looking at the Chicago’s final seven games, things aren’t going to get any easier with four of the games being divisional games. But before the Bears clash with their NFC North rivals, they must get the ball rolling when the 5-4 Philadelphia Eagles come into town for a nationally televised Sunday night game.
