The Buffalo Bills All-Time Team

Top Ten Buffalo Bills

Talk about a storied history and you definitely think about the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo was one of the most dominant teams in the 1990’s, they were a well oiled machine on the football field making it to the Super Bowl 4 times, but never coming away with the victory. Over there span the Bills have had some incredible talents on the field and we want to cover just a few:

10. Mark Kelso

Mark Kelso was undersized, but what he lacked in size he made up for in heart. The guy with the strangely shaped helmet was not a standout on that Bills defense but he made the plays when he needed to, he was a fan favorite in the city of Buffalo. Also, in 1992, he snatched seven interceptions away from opposing quarterbacks.

9. Steve Tasker

Steve Tasker was a multi-talented player who could play multiple positions in order to help his team win games. He played with the Bills from 1986-1997, although he could play anywhere his best work came on special teams, today he works as a sports analyst. During his incredible career he made the Pro Bowl 7 times where he did his best work on special teams.

8. Darryl Talley

Talley was a competitor and he was the anchor of the 90’s Bills defense. He led Buffalo in tackles many years; his fiery play on the field made him one of the best at his position. He made 2 Pro Bowls during his career; he also had 38.5 sacks and 12 interceptions during his time in the league.

7.Cornelius Bennett

Bennett was an outstanding linebacker for the Bills, over his career he tallied over 1,000 tackles, 71.5 sacks and 7 interceptions. He was a five time Pro Bowl player and a three time all pro and led his teams to 5 Super Bowl appearances. He was one of the most talented players at his position, quite possibly to ever play the game.

6. James Lofton

James Lofton was a big play wide receiver for the Buffalo Bills. He made plenty of great catches and had many spectacular plays at the wide out position. Lofton was selected to eight Pro Bowls, one while at Buffalo. He retired with a career total 14,004 yards and 764 receptions with 75 touchdowns.

5. Andre Reed

Andre Reed was the “go-to” receiver for Jim Kelly and the Buffalo Bills offense. Reed had outstanding hands and made many big plays for Buffalo. Reed was the key piece for the Bills offense when they needed him most as they made their Super Bowl runs. With 7 Pro Bowl selections and a 2 times an All-Pro during his career his stats speak for themselves: 951 receptions, 13,198 yards and 87 touchdowns.

4. Thurman Thomas

Never was there a running back like that of Thurman Thomas, he could do it all rushing and receiving there was something very special about Thomas. In 1991, Thomas was the NFL MVP. He's a 5 time Pro Bowler, and is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Bills Wall of Fame. Thomas had 12,074 rushing yards and 88 touchdowns during his career.

3. Jim Kelly

Jim Kelly was the key to the Bills offense in the 1990’s, he was the driver of that vaunted ‘K-Gun” offense in Buffalo and they had major success making it to 4 Super Bowls. Kelly holds the all-time NFL record for most yards gained per completion in a single game and recorded an NFL best 101.2 passer rating in 1990.

2. O.J. Simpson

O.J. Simpson was quite possibly the best back to ever play the game. He had it all as a running back, he could run from you or run over you he was just that good. He was the first 2,000-yard rusher in league history, not to mention he played on a few Bills teams that really struggled for wins. His career a 6 time Pro Bowl selection and a 5 time All-Pro; in his outstanding career he had 11,236 yards with 61 touchdowns.

1. Bruce Smith

Smith the all-time Bills sack leader was a defensive force that no offensive lineman wanted to face on Sunday. There are few pass rushers that are as intense as Bruce Smith and it showed on every down in every game. Not only was he the heart of the defense and made huge defensive stops the fans also had a special place in their heart for this incredible defensive player. During his time in the league he was an 11 time Pro Bowl selection, a 2 time Defensive Player of the year, a 2 time all-pro selection. His stats amazing: 279 games played with 1225 tackles, 200 sacks, 15 fumble recoveries and 2 interceptions.

As we all know once you hit the top of the mountain it all goes down hill from there and for the Buffalo Bills they have been on top of the mountain. In the 90’s to go to four Super Bowls only to be disappointed in each of the big games that they played. Buffalo is now in the rebuilding years and those can be the hardest for a franchise, especially one so storied like the Bills. I believe with hard work and the right moves Buffalo can return to the top of the mountain once again.
