Chargers rout Chiefs at Arrowhead The Chargers got things rolling early when on their second possession of the game they were sparked by a 36 yard run by Tomlinson. After the big play San Diego fed the Chiefs defense a balanced mix of pass and run, keeping Kansas City guessing. The Chiefs were still wondering what happened when Rivers connected with Malcolm Floyd for the game’s first touchdown with a three yard pass. But that of course was just the beginning. The Chargers would score on three of their next four possessions while shutting the Chiefs out throughout the first half. Two field goals and a second Rivers’ Touchdown pass made up the three scores and gave the Bolts a 20-0 lead at half time.
The Chiefs tried to make things interesting by starting off the third quarter with a drive for a touchdown. They even got a stop on defense and had the chance to draw closer to the Chargers, but they went three and out and gave the ball, as well as any momentum they had, back to San Diego. The Chargers needed only three plays to score another touchdown, the biggest of the three being a 58 yard pass from Rivers to Darren Sproles who ended up in the end zone with the score. It was official; the game had become a laugher as the Chargers opened up a 27-7 lead. Later on things reached the point of delirium for the suffering Chiefs fans as they sat in the cold rain and witnessed the Chargers block a punt and turn it into six more points. When it was all said and done San Diego had won by 37-7 final. The Chargers defense had shut the Chiefs down all day allowing just barely over 200 yards offense. Rivers had another fine day with three TDs and LT had his best rushing performance with 71 yards. It was a great bounce back game for the Chargers after losing two in a row. San Diego will look to keep the momentum going when they take on a team that might be even worse than Kansas City, the Raiders.
