For the second consecutive week, Jay Cutler led the Chicago Bears to a fourth quarter comeback victory; this week being over the Seattle Seahawks 25-19 at Qwest Field. Cutler’s late-game heroics helped improve the Bears’ record to 2-1, keeping a grip on second place in the NFC North.

Along with Cutler’s 247 passing yards and three touchdown passes, second-year running back Matt Forte contributed with 106 total yards from scrimmage (66 rushing, 40 receiving). Tight end Greg Olsen, who had five catches for 44 yards, hauled in Chicago’s first points of the game on a one-yard touchdown catch late in the second quarter, cutting Seattle’s lead to six points. In the third quarter, rookie Johnny Knox made his only catch of the day count, by taking it to the house from seven yards out to give the Bears their first lead of the game at 14-13. But it was after the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter when Cutler connected with Devin Hester (five catches, 76 yards) for the go-ahead 36-yard touchdown pass. Earl Bennett, who had four receptions for a team-high 80 yards, didn’t score a touchdown, but did convert on the two-point conversion following Hester’s game-winner.

After giving up a touchdown on the Seahawks’ opening drive, Chicago’s defense only surrendered four field goals for the rest of the game. Pro Bowl linebacker Lance Briggs had his best game of the year thus far with seven tackles (two for losses) and an interception. Briggs wasn’t the only player on defense to step up. When Hunter Hillenmeyer left the game with a rib injury, Nick Roach stepped in at middle linebacker and had two impact plays. The first was pressuring Seahawks’ quarterback Seneca Wallace in the end zone, causing an inaccurate throw that resulted in Briggs’ interception in the third quarter. Roach’s other big play came on the Bears’ final defensive play of the game, when he disrupted running back Julius Jones from converting a completion on 4 th and 2.

Up next for the Chicago Bears is the Detroit Lions, who just ended their 19-game losing streak, which dated back to 2007. Regardless of what Detroit’s past record is, Chicago shouldn’t take them lightly, considering the fact that they are still chasing the 3-0 Minnesota Vikings in the division.
